Thornton Tomasetti applies engineering and scientific principles to solve the world's challenges. An independent organization of creative thinkers and innovative doers collaborating from offices worldwide, our mission is to bring our clients' ideas to life and, in the process, lay the groundwork for a better, more resilient future. We provide support and opportunities to our employees to achieve their full potential and cultivate a rewarding career.
The Role :
As a Computational Designer in CORE Studio's modeling group, you will be an integral part of a team tackling some of the most exciting and challenging building and development projects worldwide. Your primary responsibility will be to serve as a 'computational modeling resource' for Thornton Tomasetti's project teams, helping them implement smart, adaptable, and efficient 3D modeling and data visualization techniques to deliver exceptional work for clients.
In addition to this core function, you will contribute to the ongoing research and development efforts within CORE Studio. Your involvement will support the future evolution of tools, methods, and processes in the AEC industry, with a focus on advancing Thornton Tomasetti's capabilities. CORE modeling is often the proving ground for cutting-edge processes and tools, and you will play a key role in applying these innovations to real-world projects. You will also have opportunities to ideate and implement novel solutions for challenges that arise.
For those interested in further developing their technical expertise, there are opportunities to work closely with a senior developer on some of the tools being created within CORE Studio. In this capacity, you'll support content creation, code testing, and bug identification, helping to refine the tools in development.
If you are driven by a 'start-up' mindset, you may also explore roles related to product management, where you will research the existing marketplace of ideas and help determine what CORE Studio should be focusing on both now and in the future.
At all stages, sharing knowledge across the company is highly encouraged. You may contribute to training sessions, assist in developing content for internal and external presentations, and share your insights with colleagues across teams. As a Junior Computational Designer, you will be exposed to a wide range of new skills and techniques, which you will apply and expand upon in your work with Thornton Tomasetti project teams.
Responsibilities :
- As part of a TT project team, respond to 3D modeling requests & communicate and coordinate with clients and consultants (e.g., TT Engineers, TT BIM staff, external architects and civil / mechanical / electrical / plumbing engineers).
- Develop workflows to help automate basic 3D modeling tasks.
- Create visual content for both TT & CORE studio marketing and promotion purposes.
- Work as part of a team of Grasshopper users developing custom scripts that put in-house AI & ML tools in the hands of TT Engineers.
- Assist in the development of training content based on computational techniques for dispersal to the wider firm to ensure as many staff as possible are exposed to the potential of computational design.
