Position Summary
The Junior Staff Accountant is responsible for performing a variety of essential accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts/pledge receivables, donation processing, and general ledger entries. This role also includes duties to ensure accurate bi-weekly payroll processing and maintenance of the payroll system and reporting. The Junior Staff Accountant will work closely with internal teams to ensure financial records are maintained accurately and in compliance with company policies and regulatory standards.
Essential Job Functions
- Process daily accounting data, including Accounts Payable, payment processing, Accounts Receivable, and banking deposits.
- Responsible for maintaining accounts payable vendor profiles. Review invoices and process payments to include ACH, wire, and checks.
- Prepares month-end journal entries in a timely manner.
- Assists in the maintenance of balance sheet schedules.
- Performs daily functions to include invoicing, accepting & applying payments and managing accounts and pledge receivables.
- Assists in the reconciliation of the accounting system to CRM system for foundation activities including donations, pledge payments and program activities.
- Assists with annual audit and 990 Tax Form.
- Assists with month end close and financial deadlines; researches and reconciles general ledger discrepancies.
- Collect, compile, and processes the bi-weekly payroll by established deadlines and coordinating with Human Resource Manager for benefit reporting and funding.
- Complete and reconcile quarterly and annual payroll reporting.
- Investigates and corrects payroll discrepancies and assists staff with timekeeping, payroll system and pay-related questions.
- Proactively identifies opportunities for process improvement, automation, and integration.
- Assists in the maintenance of finance policies and standard operating procedures; trains staff on policies and procedures, as needed

- Knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles
- Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Self-motivated and takes responsibility for high-quality work.
- The ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment as part of a team atmosphere, including effective coordination with members of other departments.
- Highly organized and able to prioritize tasks; attention to detail is a must.
- Working knowledge of financial management software and systems
- Excellent use of MS Office products, especially MS Excel
Qualifications
- Certificate or associate’s degree in accounting or equivalent accounting experience required.
- 2 – 4 years of non-profit accounting experience
- Foundation accounting experience preferred.
- 1-3 years of Payroll experience preferred.
