About This Role :

As a Credit Risk Analyst, you will be responsible for working collaboratively across departments, including working with the credit union's lending teams. The analyst will assess and monitor internal and external qualitative and environmental factors that impact the credit performance of loans, advise management when credit performance starts to deviate from expectations, and provide material assistance to the lending teams to adjust pricing or qualification criteria to respond to changes in risk and yield expectations. You will provide profitability estimates and insights related to underwriting factors to senior executives to optimize the risk-adjusted return on the credit union's loan portfolio.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Credit Analysis : Produce annualized and life of loan credit loss estimates for groups of loans with similar attributes. Identify risk factors, stratify loans by those factors, and provide pricing recommendations to lending teams.
  • Allowance for credit losses : The credit risk analyst will develop or enhance and maintain processes for :

Determining the appropriate historical periods to use as the basis for estimating credit losses;

  • Adjusting historical credit loss information to reflect differences in asset specific characteristics;
  • Producing and periodically back-testing reasonable and supportable forecasts and ranges for loss expectations in those different scenarios;
  • Determining when a financial asset has zero credit loss expectations.
  • Peer Analysis : Perform peer analysis relevant to the allowance calculation and pricing decisions.
  • Back Testing : Produce periodic back-test analyses to demonstrate whether prior loss estimates were reasonably representative of future losses, and use the back testing results to advise management about changes to underwriting, collection, pricing, or concentration risk exposure limits.
  • Prepayment speeds : Monitor loan prepayment speeds, and advise management when changes in prepayment speeds are expected to affect the credit loss expectations for a loan segment.
  • Risk Assessment : Develop and refine risk assessment models to predict loan performance and potential defaults based on current and future economic conditions.
  • Loan Portfolio Management :
  • Analyze the credit union's loan portfolio to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.

  • Provide strategic recommendations to enhance portfolio performance.
  • Collaboration with Lending Teams :
  • Work closely with lending teams to ensure credit policies are aligned with risk management strategies.

  • Participate in loan review meetings, offering expert analysis on credit decisions.
  • Environmental and Qualitative Analysis :
  • Assess qualitative factors including changes in management, industry trends, and economic indicators.

  • Analyze external environmental factors that could affect loan performance.
  • Profitability and Underwriting Insights :
  • Estimate profitability of loan products under various scenarios.

  • Advise on underwriting factors to improve loan quality and profitability.
  • Reporting :
  • Compile and present detailed reports to senior executives on credit risk, portfolio health, and strategic adjustments needed.

  • Ensure all analyses and reports meet compliance standards.
  • Strategy Development :
  • Influence credit policy and strategy to enhance risk-adjusted returns.

  • Propose adjustments to credit scoring models and underwriting criteria.
  • Who you are :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or related field preferred.
  • At least 3 years of experience in credit risk management, financial analysis, or a similar role, with specific experience in a credit union or banking environment.
  • Analytical skills with experience in statistical analysis, forecasting, and risk modeling.
  • Proficient in using financial software tools, like Excel.
  • Understanding of financial markets, credit products, and regulatory environments.
  • Problem solver and solution oriented.
  • Proactive, organized, and detailed.
  • Effective communicator across all levels of the organization.
  • High level of integrity, confidentiality, and ethical standards in handling sensitive financial data.

    In the spirit of pay transparency, we are excited to share the base salary range for this position is $82,250.00 - $105,550.00 , exclusive of fringe benefits or potential incentives. This position is also eligible for an annual corporate bonus. If you are hired at USALLIANCE Federal Credit Union, your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as skills, education, and / or experience. In addition to those factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider the internal equity of our current team members as a part is any final offer. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is the full base salary for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical to allow for future and continued salary growth. We also offer a generous compensation and benefits package.

    All positions must adhere to standard BSA / AML policies, procedures, and processes. Employees must demonstrate awareness of business functions and how business decisions affect financial and / or non-financial work results.

    Salary : $82,250 - $105,550
