Who We Are Looking For
We are looking for an experienced food scientist to join the USANA research and development team. This individual will be an integral part of a product team that oversees a product from conceptualization to market. Specifically, this scientist will be tasked with researching ingredients, select appropriate outside vendors, developing formulations, and working alongside various USANA team to develop high quality nutritional products, foods, and bars. In addition, this role is responsible for working with and directing suppliers on co-developing products that meet product claims and nutrition guidelines.
To be successful in this role, you must be extremely organized, have high project management skills, be comfortable and confident in your knowledge and ability to make and follow through on your research decision, and work well with other cross functional teams.
What You Will Do as a Food Scientist
- Manage and lead multiple projects from concept to launch on prescribed timelines while meeting excellent nutritional characteristics, flavor, and mouth-feel with limited guidance from the food science director
- Develop a design of experiments for scaling up product from bench scale to commercial production
- Assist USANA’s manufacturing group in maintaining the quality of foods and provide technical and scientific input to assist in troubleshooting product/process interaction issues
- Ensure product formulas are accurately characterized on food and supplement labelsNetwork
- Lead the design and implementation of product feedback from USANA international markets and home office product evaluations.
- Perform organoleptic stability testing to determine food product remains high quality throughout shelf-life
- Research new/novel ingredients and develop new product concepts in addition to current product roadmap
Background and Skills You Need
- Master’s degree in food science or related discipline
- 2-5 years commercial experience in product development
- Experience developing nutrition bars and proteins bars is ideal
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Position is hybrid/in office located in Salt Lake City.
