USA Track and Field’s national office, located in Indianapolis, Indiana, has multiple internship opportunities for the summer of 2024. USA Track & Field (USATF) is the National Governing Body for track and field, long-distance running and race walking in the United States. USATF encompasses the world's oldest organized sports, the most-watched events of Olympic broadcasts, the #1 high school and junior high school participatory sport and more than 30 million adult runners in the United States.

The start and end dates for each intern are between May 20 and July 26, 2024* and may be tailored to individual schedules. No internships will exceed 10 weeks. This is a paid internship of $17.00/hour. The candidates will need to relocate to the Indianapolis area during this time frame; housing is not provided. All candidates must be able to pass a background check and drug test and be fully vaccinated for COVID-19. All candidates must be 21 years of age or older by the start date of the internship. 1. Communications (1 position)

1. Communications (1 position)
- Compile and send daily clips to office
- Assist with social media content
- Update athlete bios and create new bios
- Assist youth media opportunities for summer events and hometown media outreach
- Write at least 5 feature stories
- Manage Athlete of the Week (nomination and voting process, interview, write, publish, and send story)
- Provide event coverage as assigned; game stories, previews, interviews, features
- Other projects as assigned
- Must be able to stand and walk for long periods at events
2. Customer Service (2 position)
- The Customer Service intern must be outgoing in nature and enthusiastic to assist our various constituents who range from Individual Members, Club Members, Parents, Fans, Event Organizers, Coaches, Officials, local USATF Associations, and internal departments. The work environment is fast-paced, high-energy, and deadline-driven.
- Answer daily USATF constituent telephone inquiries on various topics such as Individual Membership, Club Membership, Sanctions, benefits, merchandise orders and upcoming events.
- Respond to daily constituent emails on the topics described above.
- Assist with daily Sanctioned Event Approval process by conducting research on event websites, social media, and utilizing internal system resources.
- Perform various membership tasks within USATF system as they relate to date-of-birth verifications, membership association transfers, member password requests, and SafeSport course completion updates.
- Process USATF merchandise returns daily.
- Assist with special projects on an as-needed basis
3. Entertainment Properties (1 position)
- Looking for responsible individual who has a serious interest in video production and broadcasting. (This position is focused on behind-the-scenes productions, with little to no on-camera time.)
- Must have previous experience working with studio equipment including DSLR cameras, audio equipment and lighting
- Must have previous experience in video editing and the ability to produce quality work in Adobe Premiere, Adobe After Effects and Photoshop
- Assist in execution of event needs; including, but not limited to, setting up athlete interviews, filming B-roll and providing necessary help with live webcasts and broadcasts. (travel may be required)
- Ability to think creatively and brainstorm concepts for USATF.TV and USATF social media platforms
- Must be able to stand and walk for long periods at events
4. Events (2 positions)
- Attend teleconferences with local organizing committees (LOC) of Championship events to prepare for National Championships
- Assist with gathering and organizing content to build and update Championship Webpages
- Monitor Championship registration system (qualifying standards, memberships, affiliations)
- Assist with design approvals/ordering/shipping of Championships materials (bibs, medals, plaques, registration t-shirts, implements, etc.)
- Create spreadsheets for various needs (budget, hotels, signage, medals, credentials, prize money)
- On-site set-up prior to Championships: (signage, awards stage, tents, tables, etc.)
- Possible on-site roles during Championships: assist with award presentations, packet pick-up, monitor/adjust setups, and flow of operations as necessary
- Assist with in office duties relating to volunteer committees
- Must be able to stand and walk for long periods at events
5. Graphic Design (1 position)
- Support the Brand Manager in the daily duties of managing creative brief requests
- Individual willing to work closely with multiple departments to understand creative needs for a variety of projects
- Knowledge of preparing files for print and saving files for the web
- Photo editing
- Assist with maintaining & monitoring the brand of USATF internally and externally
- Candidate must be proficient with Adobe Creative Suite; Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator
- Posses good time management and multi-tasking skills
- Organizational skills including the ability to rearrange daily schedule for unexpected projects that may be presented
- Visual communications majors preferred
- Ability to produce logos, print promotional material, design email blast graphics, and develop layouts for merchandise and social media campaigns
6. High Performance/Coaching Education (1 position)
- Assist the HP Department in tracking and monitoring elite and emerging elite performances including current times, eligibility status and personal bests.
- Work with various members of the HP Department in event, development, sport science and sports medicine programs.
- Travel to and assist with coach credentialing, coaches' hospitality, team processing, and/or meet management functions at USATF Outdoor, U20, and/or Youth Outdoor Championships.
- Assist in management of USATF Coaching Education Level 1, 2, 3 Schools, specialty programs, and grants, including event planning, logistics, payment requests, financial tracking, and contract management functions.
- Update course materials, exam banks on USATF Campus and coaching school presentations utilizing Rise 360 software and/or PowerPoint.
- Maintain coach certification and membership databases utilizing Excel and Sport80 platform. Strong proficiency in Excel is desired.
7. International Teams (2 positions)
- Provide support in maintaining and organizing national team uniforms and equipment
- Assist with packing and shipping uniforms for national teams
- Assist with uniform exchanges
- Assist with team sign-up, either online or onsite, for national teams
- Assist with the maintenance of national team communications and USATF paperwork, as well as the elite athlete database via Teamworks
- Must be able to stand for long periods.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
8. Legal (1 position)
- Contract drafting and review
- Assist with governance inquiries
- Work with committees that the legal department liaises with (e.g. Law and Legislation, NABR, Ethics Committee), and participate on conference calls when necessary
- Monitor and track intellectual property issues
- Prepare contract execution forms for contract execution process
- Update webpages, policies (e.g. ADA), and contract management system
- Prepare contract summaries
- Assist with Athlete Representative program
- Attend meetings with all departments internally at USATF and monitor legal issues and needs
9. Merchandise (3 positions)
- Travel to and provide logistical support for select events throughout the summer, including, but not limited to: U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Track & Field, USATF Youth Outdoor Championships, USATF Masters Outdoor Championships, USATF Hershey National Junior Olympics Track & Field Championships
- Support the department in various daily and weekly tasks at our warehouse location, i.e., fulfilling online store orders, inventory and tagging of products, packing/unpacking event materials, etc.
- Assist with the planning and implementation of merchandise marketing plans, both at events and online, i.e., design and layout of on-site Team USATF Stores, creation of email blasts and social media content, launch of new products, and execution of various promotions
- Will learn more about the merchandise buying process through the execution of an ancillary product project
- Provide excellent customer service through direct interactions at events, accurate online store order fulfillment, and management of issues quickly and effectively
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

10. Outreach and Grass Roots (2 positions)
Assist in execution of local/ national community events

- Assist in administrative work and research surrounding community events
- Identify new opportunities for USATF Elite Athletes and USATF Alumni Association to give back to communities
- Reach out to local organizations to encourage support in USATF Community Outreach events
- Setup and teardown of various events

Youth Programs
- Help management prepare and execute Youth national championships
- Utilize Youth membership databases to assist with youth-related inquiries
- Facilitate date of birth verification
- Assist with administrative organization within the department
- Coordinate shipping operations for Youth Department
- Help promote and execute USATF Future Stars initiatives
- Coordinate signage at the warehouse
- Work directly with USATF Youth Camps Program
- Responsibilities may require travel
11. Sanction Program (Insurance) (1 position)
No prior insurance experience required
- Assist in coordinating the implementation of the USATF sanction/insurance program
- Work closely with the Sanction Coordinator to assess event risks of USATF sanctioned events
- Assist in development and implementation of Sanctions marketing plan
- Develop and implement business strategies under the supervision of the Sanction Coordinator to increase revenue for 2024
- Communicate and provide customer service to USATF members and event organizers
- Contact various USATF Associations and provide sanctions assistance where necessary
12. Sport Science, Data Analytics, and Coding (1 position)
- Assist the High Performance (HP) Department in data aggregation, management, queries, and visualization projects.
- Use video biomechanics tools to complete remote analysis on elite athletes.
- Utilize statistical modeling tools to develop predictive algorithms for athlete performance.
- Assist with various coding projects related to data management across the organization
- Experience with the following tools are a plus: R or Python, SQL, PowerBI, Microsoft Office, prompts for LLMs.
- Knowledge of sports performance and experience in track and field are a plus.
13. Travel/Hospitality (1 position)
- Help coordinate ground transportation schedules
- Assist with the reconciliation of travel accounts
- Assist with credit card authorizations
- Research
- Providing exceptional customer service to clients or colleagues
- Maintains accurate, organized client files; provides necessary documents and conducts post-travel communications.
- Verify and complete travel changes as they arise.
