The Family Support Specialist position is a remote opportunity located in Mississippi, with up to 50% local state travel required.

This role offers a hiring bonus of $3,000.00 and a starting hourly rate of $30.90, which may be subject to change based on experience, education, and cost of living.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough home study assessments for potential placements for Unaccompanied Children (UC), including background interviews, home assessment, and case analysis.
  • Provide culturally and linguistically appropriate post placement services and comprehensive case management for Unaccompanied Children (UC).
  • Carry a minimum caseload of 25 PRS cases or at least 3 home studies with 20 PRS cases.
  • Conduct brief interventions to help families address crises and manage conflict as needed.
  • Complete individualized needs assessments with UC and sponsor, and develop case plans with particular attention to culture, language, and special circumstances.
  • Maintain high standards of record-keeping according to USCRI and ORR policies and procedures.
  • Provide information, education, referrals, outreach, advocacy, and support to ensure each child receives necessary services.
  • Assess the safety and appropriateness of the placement on an ongoing basis using child welfare principles and social work best practices through phone/video calls, interviews, and home visits.
  • Built network of local pro bono legal resources and service providers to facilitate access for Unaccompanied Children (UC) and sponsors, and track individual progress.
  • Coordinate and maintain communication with key stakeholders.
  • Participate in regular training and communication sessions with supervisor and headquarters staff.
  • Other duties assigned by supervisor.

Requirements:

  • Masters of Social Work or related field with at least two years' progressive experience, or Bachelor's degree in social work or related field with three years' progressive experience.
  • Experience in child welfare, child placements, family preservation, and social service provision desired.
  • Skilled at writing professional, thorough assessment reports.
  • Possess extensive knowledge of immigrant community local resources.
  • Excellent organizational, verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, and ability to prioritize duties in fast-paced environment.
  • Valid driver's license, insurance, clean driving record, and personal transportation required.
  • Position requires up to 50 percent long distance travel with limited notice.
  • Remote position, candidate must have appropriate workspace to complete documentation, client phone calls, and video conferencing.
  • Fluency in Spanish required, proficiency in additional languages a plus.
  • Candidate must demonstrate commitment to comply with mandatory state reporting requirement for child abuse and neglect.
  • Candidate must have dedication to human rights of refugees, immigrants, asylum seekers, and displaced people.
  • Candidate must pass criminal background check including past history of conviction of child and sexual abuse.
  • Possess or be able to obtain CPR and basic first aid certification.
  • Demonstrated support of USCRI's values by exhibiting respect for others, maintenance of confidential information, and appreciation of multicultural workplace.

Training Requirements:

  • Satisfactory completion of USCRI's Orientation and Training.
  • Satisfactory completion of ORR required trainings prior to serving clients and on annual basis.
  • Complete additional training as identified by supervisor or Human Resources.

Physical Demands:

  • Use of manual dexterity, tactile, visual, and audio acuity.
  • Use of repetitive motion, prolonged periods of sitting and standing, and sustained visual and mental applications and demands.
  • Occasional lifting (up to 25 pounds), bending, pulling, and carrying.
  • Quantitative/mathematical ability (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, standard measurements).
