What are the responsibilities and job description for the ELL Newcomer Teaching Position position at USD 216 DEERFIELD SCHOOL?
Deerfield, USD 216 seeks a dynamic individual for their ELL/Newcomers teaching position for the 2022-2023 School Year. This person will work with students who are new to the community and to the USA. They will support students in their academic journey as well as on their path to learning a second language. This person would also work alongside other classroom teachers to support ELL students. Bilingual in Spanish is a plus but not required. Must be excited about and able to work with 6-12th grade students.
Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and have current teacher certification or be in the process of obtaining the certification. The district will consider transition to teaching approved candidates. The candidate should have an ELL Endorsement or be willing to obtain it immediately.
The district offers a competitive salary and benefits package that includes a four-day week, Monday through Thursday. Deerfield High School is a 1A school in Southwest Kansas. We are located between Lakin and Holcomb and 15 miles from Garden City. USD 216 has well-maintained facilities and outstanding support for administrators, teachers, and students. Coaching and other sponsorships are a possibility, as well.
Salary will be based on experience and qualifications, as outlined in the USD 216 Negotiated Agreement. The base salary for the 2023-2024 school year is $39,000 plus benefits. Board-paid insurance benefits include health, dental, and vision in the amount of $6,239.28 a year or $519.94 a month. Teachers have the opportunity to earn up to an additional $1500 each year (which is added to their base salary) through a new and innovative merit-based pay system. The $1500 does include a guaranteed $500 increase yearly for years of service.
