Primary Purpose
Direct and manage assigned areas of instructional program and building operations. Oversee assigned student activities and services. Direct and manage the overall program of extracurricular and intramural athletics for the district. Provide each student with the opportunity to participate in an extracurricular athletic activity and ensure compliance with all federal, state, Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA), and local requirements.
Qualifications
Education/Certification(s)/License(s):
Master's degree from an accredited college or university
Valid required Kansas professional licensure
Valid Kansas driver’s license
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Working knowledge of curriculum and instruction
Ability to evaluate instructional program and teaching effectiveness
Knowledge of overall operations of an athletic program
Knowledge of federal, state, and KSHSAA policies governing athletics

Essential Job Functions
Duties/Responsibilities:
1. Duties/Responsibilities: Encourage and support development of innovative instructional programs, helping teachers pilot such efforts when appropriate. Participate in program evaluation measures and make suggestions for improvement where needed.
2. Reinforce expectations for staff performance regarding instructional strategies and classroom management.
3. Foster collegiality and team building among staff members. Encourage their active involvement in decision-making process.
4. Take a leadership role in planning activities and implementing programs to ensure attainment of the school’s mission.
5. Participate in development of building improvement plans with staff, parents, and community members.
6. Help principal develop, maintain, and use information systems to maintain records and track progress on building performance objectives and academic excellence indicators.
7. May act as building behavioral coordinator in accordance with state laws and regulations.
8. Work with faculty and students to develop a student discipline management system that results in positive student behavior and enhances the school climate.
9. Ensure that school rules are uniformly applied, and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
10. Conduct conferences about student and school issues with parents, students, and teachers.
11. Ensure that students are adequately supervised during noninstructional periods.
12. Oversee building operations in principal’s absence.
13. Take a leadership role in planning and scheduling of daily school activities including the development of class schedules, teacher assignments, and extracurricular activity schedules.
14. Oversee reporting and monitoring of student attendance and work with staff to identify and address issues.
15. Work with department heads and faculty to compile annual budget requests based on documented program needs.
16. Requisition supplies, textbooks, and equipment and monitor and maintain inventory in accordance with district procedures.
17. Coordinate operational support services such as transportation, custodial, and cafeteria to best meet building needs.
18. Comply with district policies, state and federal laws, and regulations affecting schools.
19. Observe employee performance, record observations, and conduct evaluation conferences in accordance with district policy and state law. Serve as second appraiser as needed for designated teacher evaluation system.
20. Assist principal in interviewing, selecting, and orienting new staff.
21. Articulate the school’s mission to community and solicit its support in realizing the mission.
22. Demonstrate awareness of school-community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs using appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
23. Direct and manage district’s athletic program and facilities.
24. Establish and maintain physical and academic eligibility requirements for participation in each sport and verify each athlete’s eligibility.
25. Maintain an active program that promotes good sportsmanship and student development including the time, resources, and materials to support accomplishment of department goals.
26. Obtain and use evaluative findings (including student achievement data) to gauge athletic program effectiveness and ensure that program renewal is continuous and responsive to student needs.
27. Manage district athletic operations including directing ticket sales, employing game officials, and ensuring preparation of facilities.
28. Prepare and approve all interscholastic game schedules.
29. Approve or arrange transportation, lodging, and meals for out-of-town athletic events.
30. Oversee the process of cleaning, repairing, and storing of all of the district athletic equipment including maintaining a current inventory of supplies, equipment, and fixed assets and recommending disposal and replacement of equipment.
31. Coordinate the use of all athletic facilities by non-school groups.
32. Plan, organize, and oversee all athletic award programs.
33. Implement district student management policies, communicate expected student behavior related to athletics, and ensure enforcement of student discipline in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
34. Establish and maintain open lines of communication on vital issues with parents, students, and teachers.
35. Implement the policies established by federal law, state law, State Board of Education rule, KSHSAA rules, and local board policy in area of athletics.
36. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
37. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
38. Develop and administer budget based on documented needs and ensure that operations are cost effective, and funds are managed wisely.
39. Maintain a current inventory of supplies and equipment and recommend disposal and replacement of equipment when necessary.
40. Prepare, review, and revise job descriptions for athletic department.
41. Recruit, select, train, supervise, and evaluate all athletic department personnel and make recommendations relative to assignment, retention, discipline, and dismissal.
42. Develop training options and/or improvement plans for employees to ensure exemplary operation in area of athletics.
43. Articulate the district’s mission and goals in the area of athletics to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission.
44. Demonstrate awareness of district and community needs, initiate activities to meet those needs, and use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
45. Support athletic booster club activities.
46. Follow/Enforce all district policies, rules, and regulations.
47. Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervise and evaluate the work of professional staff as assigned by the building principal. Direct the work of teachers, custodians, paraprofessionals, clerical personnel, and others as assigned.
Supervise, evaluate, and recommend the hiring and firing of coaches and support staff.
*To meet the executive exemption test, the primary duty must be management and the employee must supervise at least two full-time employees.
