Reports to: Director of Buildings and Grounds

Employment Type: Seasonal, non-exempt position. Duration of employment is subject to

district needs and seasonal requirements.

Job Summary

This is a temporary, seasonal position responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of grounds and outdoor areas. The seasonal grounds position is charged with the grounds maintenance services; ensuring attractive and safe grounds area/s and athletic fields; performing a variety of special grounds maintenance operations; and maintaining grounds for assemblies, events and/or recreational activities. As well as assist in facility maintenance and custodial duties.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Experience desired in landscaping and maintenance work
• Valid state issued driver’s license
• Maintain current tuberculosis testing by health department
• Requires regular attendance and presence on-site

Required Knowledge & Abilities

• Ability to work independently without supervision
• Ability to work in a team environment
• Ability to understand chemical hazards
• Knowledge of landscaping and maintenance equipment
• Ability to operate web based software

Performance Responsibilities

• Application of pesticides and herbicides for the purpose of controlling insects and weeds
• Clean landscaped areas and related items (e.g. storm drains, fields, litter, etc.) for the purpose of preventing flooding and removing hazards
• Construct landscape items and features for the purpose of modifying - or adapting facilities to specific needs
• Maintain job related grounds keeping equipment for the purpose of ensuring for the availability of equipment in a safe operating condition
• Maintain playground equipment for the purpose of ensuring the availability of equipment in safe operating condition in compliance with established guidelines
• Operate heavy equipment (e.g. tractor, trailers, skid loader, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining grounds
• Perform a variety of landscaping activities (e.g. mowing, weeding, trimming, planting, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining district grounds
• Plant a variety of landscaping materials (e.g. lawns, shrubbery, flowers, etc.) for the purpose of keeping the grounds attractive
• Prepare grounds and athletic fields (e.g. fertilizes soil, courtyards, flower beds, chalk fields, paint stripping, etc.) for the purpose of providing adequate, attractive and safe areas for assemblies, recreational activities and/or athletic events
• Remove snow for the purpose of ensuring parking lots and sidewalks are safe for vehicles and people
• Repair irrigation systems and components (e.g. valves, wiring, timers, switches, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring equipment and/or components are in proper working order
• Request materials, supplies, equipment, and/or support personnel for the purpose of completing assignments in a timely manner
• Respond to immediate safety and/or operational concerns (e.g. facility damage, vandalism, alarms, etc.) for the purpose of taking appropriate action or notifying appropriate personnel for resolution
• Transport a variety of tools, equipment, supplies, etc. for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials required at job site
• Additional physical demands include: standing, walking, reaching forward and overhead, balancing, stooping, grasping items, sitting, climbing stairs and ladders, kneeling, crouching, crawling, lift up to 80lbs on a daily basis, and operating controls
• The job is performed under some temperature extremes and in some hazardous conditions
• Complete additional duties as assigned that include completing maintenance projects.
• Willing to work overtime at nights and on weekends when an emergency arises
• Follows all safety procedures and watches for safety violations throughout the district

Job Types: Temporary, Seasonal

Pay: $11.24 - $20.60 per hour

Expected hours: 20 – 40 per week

Schedule:

• Day shift
• Evening shift
• Weekends as needed
