Description
Under the direction of and reporting to the Plant Manager, the Parts manager purchases parts, materials, and tools to fulfill production and customer requirements and performs counter sales and customer service-related activities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
- Purchase parts, tools and materials to fulfill production and customer service requirements, arranging the most favorable terms for the company relating to price, quality, and delivery.
- Discuss extraordinary purchases with and obtain purchase approval from the Machine Shop Manager for expensive materials or tooling, as required.
- Process parts and materials, checking part and material quantity and type against purchase orders. Maintain accurate inventory balances on a continuous basis.
- Arrange for shipping of parts and materials.
- Organize and maintain the cleanliness of the WEM Machine Shop.
- Stocking material in proper locations
- Operate forklift truck
- Help cycle counting when needed.
- Drive a truck with a trailer to deliver parts.
- Cut and stock small parts.
- Scan in and out of labor collection software, as required, to track work hours.
- Perform other miscellaneous tasks, as assigned by management.
Requirements
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Individual should posses a valid driver license and a good driving record.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Requires education generally equivalent to 4 years of high school, 1 to 3 years of experience in parts, materials management, counter sales and customer service procedures.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and comprehend written materials relating to purchasing, counter sales and customer service activities.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure to perform calculations relating to inventory control and purchasing.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: The employee must possess mechanical aptitude, the ability to read blueprints, the ability to organize, prioritize purchasing parts and materials distribution related matters. The employee must possess the ability to operate a variety of equipment such as hand tools, precision measuring instruments, a calculator and computer.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, sit and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. PROTECTIVE CLOTHING REQUIRED: The employee must wear safety glasses and a protective face shield, safety shoes, ear protection, protective clothing, leather gloves, and hard-hat as required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in proximity to moving mechanical parts and fumes and airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
