What are the responsibilities and job description for the Work Study Program Operator position at USG Corporation?
The program will enable students aged 18 years or older to obtain temporary employment with USG during their senior year and the summer following graduation. Participants will acquire valuable skills pertinent to a future career in manufacturing. Key components of the program include on-the-job training, mentorship from experienced professionals, exposure to various manufacturing processes, and potential pathways to full-time employment post-graduation.
Role & Responsibilities:
- Performance of various manual labor tasks in factory environment.
- Follow established safety rules.
- Must be willing and able to learn equipment operation from instruction and self study.
- Able to interpret verbal and written instructions.
- Possess basic communication and problem solving skills.
- Open to shiftwork, weekends, and overtime as required.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- This is a temporary position, which will expire after the student returns to school, or upon securing full-time employment, whichever occurs first
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Students may receive training and work in various operating departments and positions.
- Adherence to all plant and department safety rules and policies is mandatory.
- Ability to meet the essential physical requirements of the position.
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
Additional Information:
Prior to performing work students will job shadow within the plants various operating departments being paired with experienced professionals, that can offer insight to what a career withing USG and manufacturing can offer.
The company will attempt to place students in work study positions that best align with their career aspirations.
Students will have reoccurring check-ins with plant and department leadership to discuss feedback, and gauge program effectiveness.
Students will be paid an hourly rate equivalent to entry level production for hours worked and are limited to pre-determined hours a week during the school year but may work full-time (40 hours per week) during school breaks.
Rate of pay may be adjusted based on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.
