As a nonprofit association, our work and our team are driven to act for the good of the game. The USGA’s headquarters are located in Liberty Corner, NJ, with a recently opened campus in Pinehurst, NC. For more, visit usga.org.  About this role:  The USGA is committed to hosting safe championships for its employees, contractors, players, and fans. The Safety Intern will assist the Safety Director in the identification, evaluation, and control of worksite hazards ensuring a safe and successful execution of the 2025 U.S. Open Championship. The Safety Intern will assist with multiple phases of the Championship buildout including advance set-up, Championship week responsibilities, and post-Championship breakdown. The hourly rate is $15.00 per hour, and candidates are eligible for overtime pay (time and a half) for any hours over (37.5) a week. Accommodations and transportation are provided. Working at the U.S. Open, you will experience a fast-paced work environment.  The successful candidate must have the ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks at one time. Each day brings new challenges, and the intern must have exceptional organizational and communication skills. The candidate must be able to handle physical tasks such as lifting boxes and manual labor, and will likely be spending extensive time in the sun. The weeks leading up to the Championship will require at least (40) hour work weeks and as the Championship grows closer, lengthen to (60 ) hours. This position will include some weekends. What you'll do: Assist in the active management of safety compliance onsite at the U.S. Open by working with the internal operations team, vendors, and other third parties to enforce safety requirements. Help develop and enforce organizational safety protocols onsite at the U.S. Open; Advise and make recommendations to site safety leadership for achievement of current and future safe work environment goals; Assist the Safety Director in activities such as safety training, site safety audits, program development, and hazard mitigations. Regularly inspect all U.S. Open facilities and grounds for safety compliance; Manage workers’ compensation claims for workplace accidents; Identify opportunities and develop solutions to enhance safety performance; and Continue building a culture of safety by promoting health and safety awareness and education. Where you'll be:  Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, PA Position Time Frame: April – Mid July What you bring: Able to lift heavy items (up to 50lbs), while practicing Safe Lifting and/or with the assistance of others. Able to set and meet high work standards for self and others while accomplishing tasks quickly and thoroughly. Must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to drive a golf cart. Good interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively express ideas and interact with a wide array of individuals in an exemplary manner consistent with USGA values. Able to work well under pressure and assume full responsibility for projects. Able to read and interpret manuals, diagrams, and schematics with a strong attention to detail. Exceptional organizational skills. Able to think logically and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously. Able to work long and strenuous hours including holidays and weekends. Compliance with all USGA safety and operations policies, procedures, and practices Prior experience in event operations or golf is a plus.
