What are the responsibilities and job description for the Actuarial Analyst position at USLI?
Responsible for assessments of product health by accessing data from company systems and/or external sources to assist with any requested adhoc results analyses, as well as organizing this data and creating spreadsheets to help facilitate business decision making. Assist in the completion of rate indications, under guidance by a more senior member of the team. Create product change proposals by compiling competitor rating information and rating samples as directed and calculate rate change impact inforce for a given proposal. Prepare actuarial support for regulatory rate filings in most states, under guidance of a more senior team member as well as completing simple filings independently. Compile and update existing business results and pricing monitors then review for accuracy and data integrity. Assist Chief Actuary with monthly large loss analyses and quarterly Loss Review Committee Meeting preparation as needed. Provide data support for Underwriting decision-making, as requested.
Additional job assignments include special projects relating to data analysis and assigned by the Chief Actuary.
Clear and concise oral and written communication skills required. Ability to provide explanations of your work that are suitable for both actuarial and underwriting audiences. Strong analytical and problem solving skills, ability to bring together appropriate data to shed light on an issue. Effectively balance attention to detail with a big picture perspective. Ability to review own work for accuracy but also consider the big picture in summarizing and presenting their work. Displays a strong multitasking ability and is able to work on multiple projects concurrently. Understands which issues are important and how to gather pertinent information to shed light upon them. Willingness to learn to use SQL queries to obtain needed data from our systems for analysis. Proficient in using Microsoft Office suite.
Education: College degree majoring in mathematics, statistics, actuarial science, or a related field, or equivalent experience
Actuarial Exams or Equivalent: At least 1 actuarial exam
Experience: 0-2 years of property/casualty actuarial experience
