What are the responsibilities and job description for the Coverage Specialist position at USLI?
Overview: USLI is looking for an experienced attorney to join our Coverage team. In this role, you will serve as claims counsel and leverage your expertise in managing a diverse caseload of Professional, Casualty, and Property claims involving coverage.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coverage Analysis: Identify, evaluate, and analyze coverage issues and applicable coverages.
- Documentation: Draft reservation of rights and denial letters.
- Oversight: Supervise outside coverage counsel and oversee coverage litigation.
- Negotiation: Proactively negotiate settlements within evaluation and designated authority levels.
- Legal Research: Conduct legal research and provide coverage opinions to claims personnel across all product lines.
- Industry Trends: Stay informed on insurance coverage case law and trends; prepare summaries for dissemination within the company.
- Training: Develop and deliver training programs for internal claims departments; participate in roundtable discussions on legal coverage matters.
- Policy Drafting: Collaborate with underwriting and corporate legal to assist in drafting policy language.
- Travel: Attend arbitrations, mediations, settlement conferences, or trials as needed; participate in customer service visits to enhance relations.
- Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned.
Other Responsibilities:
- Special Projects: Undertake special projects as assigned by leadership.
- Continuing Education: Attend seminars and conferences; complete continuing education programs outlined in the annual Training and Development Plan.
Qualifications:
- Education: Juris Doctorate (JD).
- Experience: 3 to 7 years of claims handling experience with a strong coverage background and/or 3 to 7 years of law firm/litigation experience.
- Skills:
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent analytical and negotiation abilities.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
Knowledge Requirements:
- Good working knowledge of Westlaw.
Working Conditions:
- Occasional travel required.
- Position offers 5 remote work days per month.
Salary Range: $75,000 - $115,000
