What are the responsibilities and job description for the Employment Practices Claims Examiner position at USLI?
Key Responsibilities:
- Coverage Assessment: Review the first notice of loss and policy details to confirm coverage; draft disclaimers and reservation of rights letters as needed.
- Comprehensive Investigations: Conduct in-depth investigations, including liability and damages assessments, witness interviews, scene inspections, and evidence collection.
- Independent Adjuster Coordination: Engage and direct independent adjusters, ensuring thorough and effective claim investigations.
- Liability Evaluation: Apply statutory and case law to assess liability exposure and ensure equitable contribution from joint tortfeasors.
- Reserve Management: Maintain accurate reserves that reflect the evolving liability and damages associated with each claim.
- Claim Resolution: Manage claim files proactively, negotiate settlements with claimants or attorneys, oversee defense counsel, and ensure efficient litigation handling.
- Reporting & Documentation: Prepare detailed reserve authority requests, reinsurance reports, serious loss reports, and coverage position letters.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with underwriting, compliance, and actuarial teams to support product integrity and risk management.

Qualifications:
- Experience:
- 2 years of relevant experience for Associate Claims Examiner
- 7 years of relevant experience for Claims Examiner
- Background in claims examination, adjusting, legal services (paralegal, attorney), or a related field.
- Specialized expertise in Employment Practices Liability, Directors & Officers (D&O), and Errors & Omissions (E&O) claims is highly preferred.
- Additional qualifications such as multi-jurisdictional knowledge, advanced degrees, or a JD are a plus.
