What are the responsibilities and job description for the Personal Lines Claims Examiner position at USLI?
Your Role: You’ll play a critical role in evaluating coverage, liability, and damages for each unique claim. You’ll collaborate across teams and with external stakeholders to effectively investigate, negotiate, and resolve claims.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coverage Assessment: Review initial loss reports and policy details to confirm coverage, issuing disclaimers and reservation of rights letters as needed.
- Comprehensive Investigation: Conduct thorough investigations, including liability and damages assessments, witness interviews, scene inspections, and evidence collection.
- Independent Adjuster Management: Retain, direct, and oversee independent adjusters throughout the claims process.
- Liability Analysis: Apply statutory and case law to assess liability exposure and ensure fair contribution from joint tortfeasors.
- Reserve Management: Maintain accurate reserves that reflect evolving liability and damage evaluations.
- Claims Handling & Negotiation: Manage claim files proactively, negotiate settlements with claimants or attorneys, and oversee defense counsel to ensure effective litigation outcomes.
- Detailed Reporting: Prepare reserve authority requests, reinsurance reports, serious loss reports, and coverage position letters.
- Collaborative Approach: Work closely with underwriting, compliance, and actuarial teams to ensure product integrity and effective claims management.

Qualifications:
- Experience Levels:
- Associate Claims Examiner: 2 years of relevant experience
- Claims Examiner: 7 years of relevant experience
- Industry Background: Previous experience as an examiner, adjuster, paralegal, attorney, or in a related field.
- Preferred Expertise: Experience in personal lines claims handling.
- Additional Qualifications: Multi-jurisdictional experience, advanced degrees, or a JD are a plus.

Salary Range: Associate Claims Examiner: $65K - $95K; Claims Examiner: $85K - $115K
