Job Description
Position Title: Job Developer Placement Specialist
Reports To: YouthBuild Program Director
Job Summary: The Job Developer/Placement Specialist is integral to the program with the position being responsible for providing on-going job development and career support for students seeking jobs and/or post-secondary placement. The position is also responsible for outreach to employers and advocacy for students in all areas related to career/employment. This is a 35-hour workweek and will be filled by someone who is committed to working with at-risk youth in need of guidance and support. Possession of a valid N.Y.S. driver’s license is required.
General Responsibilities By Component:
- 1) Job Developer/Placement Specialist:*
Ø Meet with employers willing to employ youth completing the YouthBuild program.
Ø Maintain a list of employers. willing to employ YouthBuild graduates, for use in assisting YouthBuild participants with employment placement and/or an internship or union apprenticeship.
Ø Meet with local college’s placement advisors to access necessary guidelines for college placement for students interested in post-secondary education.
Ø Meet regularly with the Program Manager and Case Manager/Office Supervisor to develop and maintain a consistent approach to supporting and expanding the development of employment possibilities and/or post-secondary placement in areas of interest expressed by students.
Ø Maintain contact with union leaders who have agreed to consider YouthBuild graduates for apprenticeships.
Ø Responsible for the 12 month follow up of all students who exit the program to ensure retention in employment or college in compliance with DOL requirements.
Ø Develop knowledge of the Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act (WIOA) and needs of employment community.
- General Overall Responsibilities of Complete Position:
Ø Assist the Program Manager in the planning, development and implementation of the Mental Toughness Orientation for program candidates.
Ø Participate in staff meetings including those that cover regular team review of students.
Ø May participate in planned field trips for YouthBuild students, including community service projects.
Ø Adhere to all Ulster YouthBuild policies and program structure as defined in the member contract/journal, including but not limited to the YouthBuild Safe and Healthy Workplace policy. Implement policies consistently.
Ø Perform any other tasks deemed necessary for the effective operation of the program.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or Associates Degree in Human Resources preferred.
- Preference may be given for experience working with at-risk young adults.
- Ability to establish rapport and relate sensitively to a diverse group of young people with an understanding of the needs of the students & community where they reside.
- Ability to build & maintain relationships with a wide variety of employers and service agencies.
- Strong commitment to helping young people succeed in all aspects of the Youthbuild program.
- Excellent verbal & written communication skills with non-judgmental approach and style.
- Proficient use of Microsoft Word, Excel & Access.
- Ability to work as part of a team to implement the YB model and achieve the best program results.

Pay: $43,000.00 - $46,000.00 per year
