Job Summary
Primary responsibilities include conducting biological field sampling on small and large vessels, laboratory analysis of biological specimens, data recording/entry/checking/summarizing, and maintenance and troubleshooting of field gear. Will include field work on commercial crab fishery vessels as part of a coastal crab fishery observer program. May assist with specialized assigned projects (i.e. acoustic telemetry, trophic analysis, age and growth, reproductive analysis, molecular analyses, administrative duties).
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists in the collection of field samples in support of assigned scientific research studies in a safe manner ensuring that all protocols are followed.
- Assists in the processing and laboratory analysis of biological samples and management of associated data files. Accurately records, enters, checks and summarizes any raw data from field/laboratory samples.
- Safely operates sampling gear according to departmental and University guidelines and performs maintenance and care of assigned equipment.
- Assists in specialized analysis/projects as assigned (i.e. acoustic telemetry, trophic analysis, age and growth, reproductive analysis, molecular analyses, administrative duties).
- Assists in preparation of technical reports.
- Participates in outreach events and presents at public and/or professional forums.
- Performance of other technical laboratory activities as directed. Adheres to University policies, and procedures and performs other duties as assigned.
