Job Summary
The School of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at The
University of Southern Mississippi invites applications for a non-tenure-track
position of Visiting Instructor or Visiting Assistant Teaching Professor of
Chemistry on the Gulf Park Campus to begin in August 2025. The successful
candidate will provide instruction in freshman general and sophomore organic
chemistry classes and their co-requisite laboratories and supervise laboratory
teaching assistants. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching
12 semester credit hours each week; liaise with members of the Hattiesburg
campus to develop, implement, revise, and evaluate curricula; assist with
student learning outcomes; and be compliant with laboratory safety protocols.
There is no research requirement. A Master’s Degree (for appointment at the
rank of Instructor) or Doctorate (for appointment at the rank of Assistant
Teaching Professor) in Chemistry or related field with at least 18 graduate
credit hours in Chemistry is required by the start of the appointment. The
successful candidate must be able to engage in effective teaching.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Teach 12 semester credit hours of Freshman & Sophomore Chemistry Courses/Labs
- Answering Correspondence with students
- Grading
- Curriculum Development and Recruitment
- Teaching of online Chemistry Courses/Labs
- Performs other duties as assigned.
