What are the responsibilities and job description for the Registered Nurse First Assist (RNFA) FT position at USPI?

Job Summary: Responsible for the delivery of safe, effective, and quality patient-family centered care in the OR and other areas of perioperative services for all patient populations. Functions as an RN first assistant during operative and other invasive procedures and throughout the perioperative continuum in accordance with scope of practice credentials, privileges, experience, education, and competency verification.
Responsibilities:
- Assist surgeon in general and specialized surgeries
- Prepare patients for surgery
- Provide patient care and support
- Administer medications
- Practice surgical procedures such as controlling bleeding and suturing incisions, draping, providing exposure, and handling tissue
- Prepare all necessary supplies
- Position and prepare the patient on the operating table
- Monitor the patient’s vital signs and heart rate
- Educate patient and family on operation and aftercare
- Perform post-operative assessments
- Monitor patient after surgery for pain and/or complications
- Study patient history and health assessments
- Communicate health of patient to family members
- Monitor surgery site for healing or infection
- Participate in research
- Perform CPR or other emergency measures if required

Required Skills:
- Graduate from an accredited school of nursing and an accredited RNFA program.
- Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR) certification
- BLS and ACLS certification
- Current registered nurse licensure in state of employment
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a RNFA required.
- Previous experience in Ambulatory Surgery strongly preferred.
- Basic and advanced preoperative training, operating room experience required.
- Can perform scrub and circulating nurse roles.
- Excellent understanding of multiple surgical procedures.
- Knowledge of aseptic and sterile techniques.
