USRowing is a nonprofit organization recognized by the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee as the national governing body for the sport of rowing in the United States. The organization’s mission is to steward, strengthen, and grow American rowing by championing performance and igniting new passion for the sport.

USRowing selects, trains, and manages the teams that represent the U.S. in international competition. The organization serves multiple constituencies including novice learn-to-rowers, parents of rowers, masters rowers, adaptive rowers, collegiate rowers, indoor rowers and, most recently, coastal rowers.

We are focused on growing diversity, equity, and inclusion within the sport of rowing on a national scale, on increasing support for our national team programs, and providing additional benefits and value to our over 80,000 individual members and over 1,400 rowing organizations.

Job Summary:

The Chief Experience Officer (CXO) delivers meaningful and sustainable value to USRowing individual and organizational members through effective, scalable, and mission-aligned grassroots programs. They support the Member Services, Competition, Learning & Development, and Safeguarding teams through consistent excellence in organizational leadership, data-driven decision making and capital allocation, internal and external stakeholder engagement, and a results-oriented approach to performance and overall organizational success that prioritizes growth and excellence. The CXO is a true end-to-end owner who can deliver programs and projects from ideation to execution to evaluation, a player-coach who scales by working cross-functionally through others while maintaining close attention to the details and rolling up their sleeves when needed, an operator who actively manages P&Ls to drive organization stability, and a strategic and clear-eyed thinker who aligns long-term goals with the steps required to achieve them.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Member Services. Identify, evaluate, execute, and assess all member benefits across a diverse stakeholder group based on ever-improving feedback loops. Develop product, pricing, and cost strategies that ensure sustainable member value and organization support. Build upon foundational technology platforms and systems to improve overall member experience and day-to-day member support.

  • Competition. Develop and deliver events that exceed the expectations of athletes, coaches, spectators, sponsors, and volunteers, establishing and maintaining the highest standard of excellence for rowing regattas globally. Assess and adapt the long-term plan that prioritizes inclusive and impactful events, fosters collaboration with current and future partners, and identifies regatta venues that meet the rapidly evolving needs of the sport.

  • Learning & Development. Empower our member community to succeed and embody the highest standards of sport by supporting professional development, leadership training, and educational opportunities. Design, implement, and manage comprehensive training programs to enhance the skills, knowledge, and performance of organizational member leaders, coaches, and athletes. Identify learning needs, develop strategic initiatives, and create innovative solutions to meet organizational goals.

  • Safeguarding. Protect and enhance the safety and integrity of rowing. Reduce harm across sport by developing and implementing strategies, policies, and procedures in key areas, including Safe Sport, Code of Conduct, member insurance programs, compliance, regatta sanctioning, and referee programs. Through proactive and collaborative leadership, create a safe, fair, and inclusive environment for all participants.

  • Cross-functional Engagement. Serve as a member of the leadership team, modeling organizational excellence and alignment with USRowing values. Partner with High Performance, Community, and Development teams to drive overall member value and support “better together” initiatives. Deeply understand and support the delivery of USRowing’s strategic plan across the organization.

  • Community Engagement. Develop and implement scalable approaches to member feedback loops and stakeholder input. Evaluate, test, and expand regional models to bring USRowing closer to the communities it serves. Partner with the Marketing & Communications team to prioritize content, formats, and channels to ensure messaging traction.

 Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree; master's degree in business administration or related preferred.

  • Minimum of 12 years of relevant experience across general management, non-profit management, product management, and/or go-to-market management.

  • Minimum of seven years of leadership experience, with demonstrated excellence in developing front-line leaders, fostering transparency and support, scaling teams, and prioritizing professional development.

  • Proven track record of developing and executing cross-functional programs to end customer, including significant P&L management.

  • Experience driving strategic assessment, objective-setting, and business unit performance through data-driven decision making, goal evaluation, and key performance indicators.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

  • Passion for sports, with knowledge of rowing a plus.

Salary: $160,000
