Purpose Of Position

This position will directly manage the operations of USTA Florida’s managed facilities in Gainesville. This position is responsible for developing business plans, budgets, financial plans and reporting, and overseeing performance and staffing at all locations in accordance with city contracts and community needs. Serves as the primary contact for the city in regarding to operations and works with key community stakeholders.

Major Duties

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

DIRECTING WORK & ENSURING ACCOUNTABILITY

  • Prepare annual performance goals, operating budgets, program plans, and business/staffing plan for Westside, Northside, Tom Petty and TB McPherson Parks, consistent with contractual obligations outlines in city contract and fulfilling community and stakeholder needs.
  • Oversee all on-court activities – ensures consistent delivery of lessons, programs, events and activities consistent with established program plans each season.
  • Hire, train and develop head tennis professional and additional tennis instructors to ensure delivery of a full suite of products for all ages and experience levels.
  • Directly oversee the staffing and management of Gainesville tennis parks to ensure high level of service to the community and deliver best-in-class programs.
  • Fosters a team-oriented environment and enables staff to work collaboratively and is consistent with the core values of USTA Florida.

BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS

  • Maintain strong relationships with City of Gainesville personnel, ensuring terms of contracts are met. Share recommendations on improvements/changes during renewal cycles.
  • Work collaboratively with local partners (Special Olympics, GACTA, Aces in Motion, etc.) to facilitate additional play opportunities and attract new players to the facility.
  • Develop key learnings and best practices documentation that can be shared with other municipal partners.

INNOVATION & COLLABORATION

  • Work closely with USTA Florida staff and department directors to implement USTA Florida programs and services at facilities, where appropriate, and provide feedback on program parameters for consideration.
  • Work closely with Director of Marketing to develop branding and marketing plans for Gainesville tennis parks and assist with executing those plans/provide feedback.

BUSINESS & FINANCIAL ACUMEN

  • Review all activities, costs operations, and forecast data for each facility and report quarterly on progress and performance toward organization goals.
  • Ensure that the flow of funds into and out of facilities is consistent with submitted budgets and aligns with all USTA Florida accounting and financial policies and practices.
  • Work with Senior Director of Operations to update policies and identify resource needs in the areas of HR, Accounting and support services.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

On-court minimum requirement - 20 hours

2. Flexible schedule is critical. Must be able to work weekends, nights and holidays, as dictated by the facility needs. Is expected to be on site at the facility to provide management and oversight most days.

3. Daily management of facility may include front desk coverage and/or Facility Maintenance as needed

4. Recruit, train and hire staff for all positions; covers duties when staff are out or positions are vacant.

Travel Demands

  • Travel to section office as needed.
  • Training workshops/conferences and other planned meetings.
  • Regional, Sectional and/or National meetings/events as needed or required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience required; business and management focus preferred.
  • Professional Tennis certification (USPTA, PTR, ITA, ITF) required. CRSE Preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience overseeing operations at a public tennis facility.
  • Proven experience working with municipalities.
  • Experience preparing business and staffing plans, managing budgets; strong mathematical skills and knowledge of accounting practices and human resource policies.
  • Proficient working with technology in a cloud-based environment, including expertise with Microsoft 365 and web-based human resources and accounting tools.
  • High level of proficiency using Tennis Director (preferred) or similar online court reservation platform.
