Mission
USTA/Mid-Atlantic Foundation is seeking a remote part-time Competition Coordinator who will support the full spectrum of Adult and Junior Competitive Tournaments within the Mid-Atlantic. This individual will report to the Manager, Competition and will work collaboratively within the Competition Department to support competitive play and the organization’s mission to grow the game of tennis.
Responsibilities
- Supports all aspects of the Junior & Adult Tournament space in the Mid-Atlantic – This position will support the execution of Adult & Youth Tournaments throughout the year.
- Reports and Data Analysis - Collect and analyze participant feedback, Tournament Director performance metrics, and registration data to enhance the tournament experience and inform strategic decisions.
Provider Education & Assistance – Deliver in-person and remote training and assistance for providers to ensure adherence to tournament standards and foster growth in the competitive pathway.- Train & Serve as a Tournament Director As Needed - Complete the training process to become a USTA Mid-Atlantic-approved Tournament Director. This role provides the opportunity to manage tournaments at sites that require additional support.
Recruit Facilities & Providers in the Mid-Atlantic – Identify and build relationships with new facilities and providers in the Mid-Atlantic to expand tournament participation and promote competitive opportunities.
Event Support Orders – This position will facilitate provider and event orders budgeted for the Competition Department.

- Minimum qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Tennis Tournament Director Experience preferred.
- Experience with USTA Tournament Play preferred.
- 1-3 years related experience in coordinating programs.
- Experience with Google Suite, to include G-Mail, Google Sheets, Google Docs, Google Slides, Google Drive preferred.
- Must be able to professionally handle sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.
- Physical Requirements of the Job: Spend frequent time making repetitive motions; spend frequent time sitting, standing and walking; spend frequent time using your hands to handle, reach, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls. Lifting up to 25lbs with or without assistance.

Competition Coordinator FAQs
- Who will the Competition Coordinator be working with? The coordinator position will work closely with Justin Cerny, Manager, Competition and Rachel Coelho, Competition Coordinator. The coordinator will also work with staff members from other departments within the USTA/MA organization.
- Is your team currently remote? Will this stay remote long term?We do have an office in Herndon VA; however, we are operating remotely for the most part. This role can be based anywhere in the Mid-Atlantic region of MD, DC, VA & WV. This person may need to attend meetings in the Herndon, VA office as required. We have three all staff meetings a year at our Herndon, VA office. Additional in person representation is expected up to eight times a year in agreement with the Manager, Competition.

What does the hiring process consist of? The first step is to APPLY!
Apply - We will be accepting applications Thursday, Janaury 30, 2025 through Wednesday, February 19, 2025. This may be extended depending on the number of applicants we receive.
Initial Interviews will be scheduled with the Sr.Director, Talent Acquisition & Talent Acquisition Specialist. Initial Interviews are typically 30-45 minutes.
Second Interviews will be scheduled with the Manager, Competition if selected based on the phone interview. This interview is typically 1 hour in length.
Final Interview will be scheduled with the Sr. Director, Programs and Services, and the CEO if selected based on the second interview. This interview is typically 30 min in length.
Final Offer will be made by HR. If an offer is accepted, new hire paperwork and background check instructions will be sent electronically to the candidate for completion. Start date will be determined by mutual agreement and orientation will be scheduled once background check results are received.
This entire process from the date the posting ends to date an offer is made can take up to 3 – 5 weeks. Expected start date is between Thursday, February 20, 2025 and Thursday, March 6, 2025.
- How much does this position pay? How many hours is considered PT? Position is non-exempt and paid between $23.00- $25.00 per hour. Compensation is commensurate with experience. Bonus eligibility is determined annually. This position is scheduled for 20 hours per week. Preference is a Tuesday-Friday or Monday-Friday schedule with 4-5 hours per day between the hours of 9-5 PM excluding select weekend participation.
