Wildlife Technician I

The Utah Department of Natural Resources, Division of Wildlife Resources, has one seasonal position (no benefits) available at the Springville Fish Hatchery in Springville, Utah. This 40-hour-per-week, seasonal position will last from mid-February to Aug. 30, 2025. Employment dates are approximate, and some flexibility exists. Housing is not provided.

Examples of duties
Assist in the operation of the Springville Warmwater Fish Hatchery. Duties include daily fish culture chores (water quality testing, feeding cleaning, fish egg care), maintenance of buildings and grounds, assisting with spawning fish, and stocking fish. Some work will also be done at the Lee Kay Fish Hatchery in Salt Lake City.

Job requirements and skills
Applicant must be 18 years of age or older and have a valid driver’s license at the time of employment. Preference will be given to applicants with education in a natural resources-related field. Experience using basic power tools is preferred. Incumbent must be able to work in extreme and adverse weather conditions (heat, wind, snow, ice, rain, etc.), work long hours in hip or chest waders, work in cold water, on slippery surfaces and in cramped areas, and lift a minimum of 50 pounds.

Other
A typical work schedule will be 40 hours per week, Monday to Thursday (10-hour days), but will need to be flexible during spawn seasons. Occasional weekend work and long hours are expected. Due to the intense time commitment required by our spawn season (March–May), we cannot accommodate a student schedule.
