What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Clinical Education position at UT Health Austin?
Build the foundation for clinical excellence — and shape what comes next.
At UT Health Austin, we’re looking for a visionary leader to serve as our Director of Clinical Education — someone who thrives on building systems, not just running them. In this newly created role, you’ll have a unique opportunity to design and lead the development of our clinical education infrastructure from the ground up. From establishing workflows to defining standards, you’ll set the direction for how we train, grow, and support our clinicians across the organization.
If you’re energized by blank whiteboards, ambitious ideas, and the chance to leave a lasting mark on a mission-driven institution, this is your role.
What You’ll Do
- Build from the ground up: Establish the vision, structure, and systems for clinical education at UT Health Austin — setting the tone for excellence and innovation from day one.
- Design impactful programs: Create scalable onboarding, competency, and development programs that promote clinical quality and support career growth.
- Champion quality and safety: Ensure that education aligns with best practices in infection prevention, evidence-based care, and regulatory compliance.
- Lead with influence: Hire, guide, and mentor a team of educators and support staff, cultivating a collaborative and learning-focused culture.
- Partner to solve real challenges: Work closely with clinical and administrative leaders to embed education into workflows and address emerging needs.
- Continuously evaluate and improve: Leverage data, feedback, and performance outcomes to refine programs and demonstrate impact.
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Education, Healthcare Administration, or a related field (Master’s preferred)
- Minimum 5 years in clinical education or staff development in a healthcare setting
- At least 3 years of leadership or management experience in clinical education
- Proven ability to build new systems, programs, or teams — not just manage existing ones
- Expertise in infection prevention, clinical quality, and evidence-based training
- Strong skills in instructional design, program evaluation, and LMS use
- A collaborative spirit, strategic mindset, and passion for empowering others through education
