Medical Surgical Patient Care Technician (PCT) Job Description
About the Role:
As a Medical Surgical Patient Care Technician (PCT), you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care in our 24-hour Level IV trauma center and Level III stroke center. You will work closely with our experienced nursing staff to ensure that patients receive exceptional care.
Responsibilities:
- Provide assistance to patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) and ongoing monitoring and response to patient needs.
- Organize work to complete daily assignments within assigned timeframes.
- Competently perform defined skills to meet patient needs and expected outcomes.
- Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe environment by following safety, infection control, and patient care policies.
- Participate in tasks related to environment and equipment use according to unit and hospital policy.
- Appropriately utilize and charge for supplies used in patient care.
- Assist with cost-effective care by ensuring appropriate use of supplies with minimal waste.
- Competently deliver therapeutic interventions to populations served under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of approved CNA certification required, or may be in senior year of nursing school with less than one semester to complete the nursing program.
- Must maintain active certification within the State of Texas.
- Competent to perform in at least two general areas of practice (cross-trained and cross-competent to cover more than one hospital service, role, or function).
- BLS required – must have certification within 30 days of hire or transfer into position.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5 years' experience in acute or long-term care.
- Demonstrated proficiency in phlebotomy.
