Apheresis RN, Supervisor

Job Description

The Apheresis RN supervises and coordinates the day-to-day activities of MSRH, Mays Cancer Center Apheresis unit, and stem cell transplant and cellular therapy (SCTCT) teams. Collaborates with the cellular therapy lab team, the SCTCT infusion center, coordinators, and the rest of the SCTCT team. Establishes protocols and practices, workflows, compliance with department, affiliate, SCTCT unit, policies and procedures, regulatory, Foundation for the Accreditation and Cellular Therapy, and system-wide standards and applicable laws. This role may cross over to inpatients to perform stem cell collections or therapeutic apheresis. This role reports to the Senior SCTCT Director and the Medical Director of the Apheresis Program and Lab Services.

Responsibilities

• Assists with supervising RNs in patient care operations within apheresis unit.
• Implements operational practices and makes recommendations for continuous quality improvement initiatives.
• Verifies patients' needs are met and evaluates unit nursing care and performance.
• Ensures adherence to institutional, divisional and unit based policies and procedures as well as external regulatory requirements.
• Participates in planning work of assigned units and coordinates activities with other patient care units and related departments.
• Plans and organizes training for unit staff members, and participates in guidance / educational programs.
• Performs audits, validations, particpates in root cause analyses
• Actively participate in Stem Cell Transplantation and Cellular Therapies Quality Program; maintain records to meet hospital, AABB, FACT, FDA, CAP, and TJC standards and requirements; perform and maintain records of quality control daily basis for the Apheresis Center.
• Participate in the Quality Programs of the Division of Laboratory Medicine
• Accurately and completely maintain patient records, including computer records
• Performs all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Bachelor's Degree degree in Nursing required
