Radiation Therapist - Lead (Radiation Oncology)

Job Description

The primary purpose of the Radiation Therapist Lead position is to function in a specialized area of radiation therapy in the role of direct patient care. Under general supervision, responsible for assisting with the coordination of daily activities for Radiation Therapists to ensure optimal flow within the clinic.

Responsibilities

  • 1. Assists in preparing sealed radioactive materials, calculates actual treatment dosages, prepares equipment such as immobilization, treatment and protection.
  • 2. Assigns and monitors tasks for appropriate coverage of the radiation therapy centers.
  • 3. Develops and implements patient treatment plans using radiation therapy techniques and radiopharmaceuticals.
  • 4. Ensures proper application and safety techniques, and use and maintenance of equipment.
  • 5. Ensures machine alignment, lasers, interlocks, and beam / light field alignment; maintains daily records to be filed, and reporting problems.
  • 6. Maintains appropriate treatment records and data for patients.
  • 7. Assists in maintaining staff evaluations and performance reviews within department.
  • 8. Provide leadership in the area of training and scheduling for staff.
  • 9. Appropriately schedules radiation therapy staff based on clinic needs and approves time off requests accordingly.
  • 10. Oversees daily clinical activities within assigned area.
  • 11. Assists with process improvement initiatives including but not limited to treatment procedure standardization, and Quality Assurance projects.
  • 13. Oversees machine inventory / par levels so as to ensure inventory is sufficient to maintain treatment
  • 14. Participates in departmental operations teams to create clinical workflows to serve to improve patient care
  • 15. Reviews departmental patient satisfaction data with supervisor and reports data back to team. Works with team to develop workflows that with goal to improve patient satisfaction results.
  • 16. Participates in directed learning as directed by supervisor
  • 17. Inputs data into departmental worksheets as directed
  • 12. Performs all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Must follow exact instructions and input exact measurements to make sure the patient is exposed to the correct amount of radiation.
  • Therapist must be comfortable interacting with people who may be going through physical and emotional stress.
  • Demonstrates analytical thinking-this role requires analyzing information and using logic to coordinate work within schedule constraints and handle emergent requirements in a timely manner.
  • Must be able to be on their feet for long periods and be able to lift and move patients who need assistance.
  • Demonstrates necessary psychomotor skills to operate and manipulate equipment including complex radiation-emitting treatment units; must be comfortable operating those devices.
  • Technical skills. Ability to serve as an expert lead for special procedures
  • EDUCATION :

  • Bachelor's degree and graduate of AMA accredited program in Radiation Therapy Technology is required.
  • LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION :

  • BLS Required.
  • RadiologyAART(R) - American Registry Of Radiologic Technologists
  • Certified and registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Radiation Therapy. Must be certified and licensed as a Medical Radiologic Technologist by the Texas Medical Board within 30 days of hire.

Life Employees receive $40,000 of group term life insurance and $40,000 of basic accidental death and dismemberment insurance for free, with options to purchase additional employee and dependent coverage for both at group rates.

    Retirement - Employees are eligible for either the Teacher Retirement System (TRS) or the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP). TRS is a defined benefit retirement plan which UT Health matches employee contributions. ORP is for eligible faculty staff employees. Voluntary retirement programs are also available to invest before- or after-tax dollars with the choice of five quality retirement plan providers.

    Time Off - A generous leave program offers multiple paid leave options :

  • Front-loaded Paid Time Off : 128 to 208 hours (16 to 26 days) of Paid Time Off based on years of service, given at the start of each fiscal year. PTO may be prorated in year one based on date of hire.
  • Extended Illness Bank : 8 hours (1 day) accrued per month which can be used for illness or injury after one day of Paid Time Off is taken.
  • Paid Family Leave : Up to 240 hours (6 weeks) to care for a spouse, child, or parent after 6 months of consecutive employment.
  • Holidays : 12 set paid holidays each year.
  • FSAs - Employees can enroll in flexible spending accounts (FSAs) to set aside money from earnings before taxes for qualifying dependent day care expenses or out-of-pocket health care expenses.

    Discounts - Employees enjoy a range of discounts on services, tickets, and gym membership.
