Job Summary
This position provides advanced nursing care to patients in a surgical setting, under the direction of a surgeon. Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting complex patient care procedures requiring specialized training and experience
- Performing patient assessments and physical examinations, and providing appropriate treatment
- Coordinating, directing, and implementing patient plans of care
- Performing minor surgical procedures delegated by supervising physicians
- Managing pre-operative and post-operative patients in coordination with faculty supervising physicians
- Utilizing advanced assessment skills to anticipate complex patient problems specific to surgery
- Ordering, conducting, and interpreting laboratory and diagnostic studies and procedures
- Making medical recommendations and/or referrals
- Formulating, implementing, and evaluating outcome-based treatment plans
- Maintaining accurate records detailing patient treatment plans and outcomes
- Facilitating patient education on medical processes, medication, nutrition, and health promotion or postsurgical care
- Collaborating with patients, families, other clinicians, and referral services to assist in patient recovery
- Responding to emergency situations
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Current Texas Licensure as a Registered Nurse
- Current Texas Licensure as an APRN - NP
- RN First Assist Certification and specialty certification as required by department
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certified or specialty certification as required by department
- Masters in Nursing as NP or Masters degree in Nursing with completion of a post-masters Nurse Practitioner Certification Program
- No prior experience is required; previous experience in a surgical specialty is preferred
Physical Requirements
This role requires:
- Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects
