The University of Texas School of Public Health was established in 2022 as a collaboration between The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (also called UT Health San Antonio) and The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA), both Hispanic-serving institutions. The new graduate school will provide academic instruction in public health and serve as a focus of research and community engagement activities directed toward promoting and maintaining community health. The School will offer master's and doctoral programs in public health.

The Department of Environmental and Occupational Health at UT School of Public Health San Antonio seeks candidates with demonstrable academic skills for faculty positions within the Department. The Department of Environmental and Occupational Health welcomes faculty with diverse research, teaching, and service interests in a variety of fields of study, with an emphasis on integrative environmental expertise and the impact of the environment, both from the perspective of the outdoor and the indoor ambient, on health and well-being. We are seeking individuals who bring a combination of expertise, passion, and commitment to working with vulnerable populations, designing and implementing multicultural approaches to preventing illnesses and injuries, and promoting well-being for all. Disciplines may be broad, including, but not limited to, environmental and occupational health, total worker health, extreme climate and volatile weather events, environmental justice, industrial / occupational hygiene and safety, agricultural and immigration health, environmental risk assessment, environmental exposome, etc.

The Department seeks to identify successful candidates with demonstrated research portfolios, scholarly publications, and experience in teaching coursework appropriate to graduate-level environmental and occupational health instruction and their application in public health. Faculty will be expected to contribute formally to the academic curricula, teach graduate courses, and actively engage in forming the School through internal and external service activities. Applications for appointment to all ranks (Assistant, Associate, or Professor) and tracks (tenure-track, tenured, or non-tenure track) will be reviewed and considered; the level and type of faculty appointment will be based on the candidate's professional and academic experiences. Qualifications

  • The position requires a doctorate in public health or a related field
  • Candidates must have prior teaching experience at the post-secondary university level.
  • Candidates should have demonstrated ability to conduct both applied and academic research.
  • Expertise and experience in issues about historically underserved populations are especially desirable but not required.

The School welcomes candidates whose experience in teaching, research, or community service has prepared them to fulfill the School's mission and goals.

They should include (a) a cover letter describing the candidate's professional qualifications, interest in the position, and brief evidence of scholarly impact, (b) Teaching and mentoring philosophy and experience (1-2 pages), (c) if applicable, a research statement with the history of external funding and plans for acquiring peer-reviewed funding (3-5 pages), (d) Curriculum vitae, (e) contact information for three professional references / letters of recommendation, and (f) unofficial copies of all academic transcripts, official transcripts will be required of the final candidate.
