What are the responsibilities and job description for the Desktop Support Technician position at UT Medical Center?
The Desktop Support Technician works as a member of a healthcare IT support team. The team is tasked with IT equipment installation, maintenance, and daily support for 5000 employees and 7000 computers, located at the UT Medical Center - Knoxville, TN and other offices in eastern Tennessee. Technician tasks include the following:
Unboxing, setup, configuring, and installation of new hardware
Providing in-person user support
Providing support over the phone, through e-mail, and chat services
Installation, configuring, and maintenance of operating systems
Software configuration and updates
Secure disposal of old equipment
Warranty transactions
If assigned to the eastern Tennessee zone, some travel required
Weekend and on-call rotation
Working from and updating ticketing system
Driving company vehicles to transport equipment
Other duties as assigned
The Desktop Support team works with a wide variety of modern and legacy operating systems and applications.
Requirements:
2 years of computer troubleshooting experience or equivalent education
Ability to push, pull, and lift up to 60lbs
Ability to move in and out of small spaces, and bend over and under desks
Ability to type
Ability to think logically and have good judgement
Ability to provide excellent customer service in-person and over the phone
Ability to communicate with others and help them use their computer equipment
Have an excellent understanding of how computers and associated technology work together
Have a valid drivers license
Some significant amount of walking could be required to provide support to customers all over the hospital campus
Preferred:
Experience supporting healthcare IT
Experience working in IT support
Experience providing excellent customer service
A Certification, or other relevant certification(s)
