EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Required

  • Experience
    5 years acute care Hospital nursing experience, preferred in critical care; and
    3 years of experience working in a Clinical Documentation Integrity program; and
    Comprehensive knowledge of ICD10 CM/PCS, ability to identify the gaps between clinical documentation and coding; and
    Experience developing and delivering education on clinical documentation and coding guidelines to CDI and Coding Teams.

    (RN) REGISTERED NURSE Upon Hire and
    (CCDS) Cert Clinical Documentation within 180 Days or
    (CDIP) CERT DOCUMNTATN IMPROVMNT PRAC within 180 Days

    (CCS) CERT CODING SPECIALIST AHIMA Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) credential Upon Hire


JOB DUTIES

  • Acts as a clinical subject matter expert, mentor, and liaison for the CDI, Coding, and Quality Teams. Assists with on-going education and makes recommendations for education topics. Works collaboratively with, and is a liaison to other Departments, Leadership, Service Line Champions, Physicians, and other members of the Healthcare Team. Trains new CDI Staff on CDI concepts, processes, and policies.
  • Performs second level clinical reviews for high impact targeted metrics, including but not limited to Mortalities, PSI's, DRG Mismatch, and Compliance. Performs CDI quality audits to monitor for query compliance, workflow strategies for prioritization, completion of CDI worksheet, and appropriate engagement with Physicians and the Healthcare Team, to assure the level of services provided and the acuity of care are accurately reflected in the record.
  • Assist the CDI Manager to develop a concurrent physician query escalation strategy and implement a process to support query completion prior to discharge. Makes recommendations and assists with the development, as appropriate, for documentation templates and physician queries based on coding and regulatory changes, and data quality review findings.
  • Demonstrates skill in prioritizing and performing a variety of duties within an environment where assignments, priorities, and deadlines change frequently.
  • Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills, critical thinking, decision making and interpersonal skills. Proactively escalates risks and issues to CDI Leadership to ensure timely and effective resolution.
  • Assists the CDI Manager with the development and analysis of reports to identify key metrics to monitor CDI program success and identify potential for process improvement and educational opportunities for CDI staff, Coding staff, and Physicians.
  • Assists the CDI Manager with the screening of new CDI applicants.
  • Maintains an expert level of knowledge of the processes and trends related to CDI.
  • May assist as backup for CDI Specialist responsibilities as workload permits.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
