JOB SUMMARY
The Simulation Operation Specialist performs the operations of the simulation program at UT Southwestern Medical Center.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Required
  • Education

  • Associate's Degree in a related field
  • Experience

  • Eighteen (18) months healthcare simulation experience
    Additional years of experience may be considered in lieu of minimum requirements.
  • Licenses and Certifications

  • (BLS) BASIC LIFE SUPPORT Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification may be required based upon area of work. within 60 Days
Preferred
  • Experience

  • Experience as an EMT, Paramedic, Registered Nurse, Licensed Vocational Nurse, Anesthesia Technician, AV field or healthcare technologist
  • Licenses and Certifications

  • (CHSOS) CERT HLTHCARE SIMULATN OPER SP Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) certification Upon Hire and
    (ACLS) ADV CARDIAC LIFE SUPPORT Upon Hire

JOB DUTIES
  • Creates and maintains an atmosphere of mutual respect and professionalism to ensure psychological safety for learners within the program
  • Maintains a commitment to professionalism /role models behaviors of professionalism for all team and individual interactions
  • Interacts with multiple disciplines to create trusting relationships across the healthcare industry
  • Provides leadership in simulation operations and technology
  • In collaboration with the simulation team, develops, implements, delivers, and provides sustainment of various immersive multidisciplinary learning opportunities and programming
  • In collaboration with the simulation team, develops and supports hybrid simulation events using low-fidelity manikins, high-fidelity manikins and standardized patients.
  • Aids in the prospective error proofing of our healthcare system through simulation; serving as a corrective action tool for RCA work, identifying latent safety threats, assisting in the remedy of gaps/near misses related to team communication, crisis resource management knowledge, skills, and attitudes identified
  • In conjunction with the clinical simulation team as well as applicable unit faculty and staff, assists and provides recommendations in the development of scenarios in simulation to ensure validity and realism for the teaching of learners
  • In collaboration with the simulation team, evaluates patient environments, equipment, and education gaps during simulations to identify safety threats and provide feedback to leadership for improvement
  • Supports the state-of-the-art educational and research missions of the institution
  • May provide mentorship, and/or train staff
  • Develops technical proficiency with all aspects of the operation, maintenance, support, trouble-shooting, and repairs
  • Responsible for maintenance, operations and supplies of simulators and equipment used in the program
  • Advances, supports and promotes simulation use across campus
  • Performs other duties as assigned
