JOB SUMMARY
Oversees the Communication Center operations and public safety dispatch under the general direction of the Operations
Captain. This is accomplished by updating policies and procedures, responding to complaints and preparing reports and documentation. Other duties include managing the Unit, making budget and staffing recommendations, supervising Communications Center personnel and interfacing with other community members.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Required
Education
Associates degree or 60 hours from an accredited 4-year university
Experience
5 years experience as a police dispatcher/communications officer with at least 3 years‿ experience as a manager/supervisor in a police communications/dispatch center.
Licenses and Certifications
Advanced Telecommunicator Proficiency Certificate from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement. Upon Hire

JOB DUTIES
Supervises the Police Telecommunicators and Police Communications Coordinator by enforcing work standards, standards of conduct, attendance and safe work practices; conducts performance evaluations, develops employees, corrects personnel issues, resolves problems, and administers disciplinary processes.
Creates and maintains staffing allocations and shift schedules, approves leave requests, updates daily time records, approves timecards for all Communications Center employees.
Develops short- and long-term goals and objectives.
Establishes, reviews and updates policies, standard operating procedures and reference material.
Interprets, explains and ensures compliance with laws, rules, standards and policies and procedures.
Plans and schedules for both new employee and incumbent training.
Interviews and recommends selection of Police Telecommunicator and Police Communication Coordinator positions.
Maintains integrity and accuracy of calls and activities generated in CAD system.
Responds to inquires or complaints related to Communications Center operations, activities, or personnel. Researches inquiry/complaint, reports findings, and initiates resolution.
Monitors activity within the Communication Center by reviewing personnel performance, listening to radio communications, listening to citizen complaints, and listening to randomly selected telephone calls for service to ensure appropriate actions are being taken by police telecommunicators.
Responsible for reviewing the communications yearly budget, as well as coordinating the purchase of all required equipment, services and/or training.
Compiles data and statistics as required and instructed.
Evaluates efficiency and effectiveness of programs, operations, procedures, and resource management.
Evaluates programs, operations, procedures, and resource management; develops, researches and implements improvements in programs and operations procedures as needed.
Takes quick decisive actions involving escalating situations.
Maintains integrity of department's terminal operations monitors and ensures police transmissions comply with CJIS and FCC regulations, department policy.
Renews and modifies required licenses for the communications center.
Performs other duties as needed.
