What are the responsibilities and job description for the Vice Chair of Education, Department of Radiology position at UT Southwestern?
The Radiology Department at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, ranked the No. 1 Best Hospital in Texas (tied), and among the top 20 in the nation, is seeking a board certified / eligible, fellowship-trained physician radiologist who will work with approximately 190 clinical and research faculty. The Department of Radiology offers one of the largest training programs in the U.S. with approximately 150 medical students rotating through the Department. Four residency programs for Diagnostic Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, Vascular and Interventional, and Medical Physics include over 100 residents. A NIH T32-funded residency program for clinician scientists is also available. This faculty position will be appointed as the Vice Chair of Education, directly reporting to the Chair of the Department of Radiology. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise and proficiency in all aspects of education and act in alignment and closely with the priorities and interests, consistent with the mission, vision, and values of the Department of Radiology. Specific roles of the position include but are not limited to :
- Academic Strategic Planning and Development for Radiology.
- Dotted line oversight of all departmental Program Directors and Associate Program Directors.
- Mentors PDs / APDs as core support of the institutional GME Committee.
- Assists in selection of and approves faculty members for program director and similar positions within the Department.
- Approves / denies clinical observership requests.
- Assists the Chair in strategic planning for academic programs and recommends new and existing opportunities for enrichment and advancement of trainees.
- Furnishes an annual report to the Chair detailing the accomplishments and near-term opportunities and challenges.
- Assists with initiatives including development, wellness, clinical sciences, and resource planning.
- Develops, implements, and manages an academic strategic plan that ensures consistent growth and success across all missions.
- Responsible for ensuring the Radiology Department’s research and education goals are integrated and aligned.
- Works closely with the Chair to develop budgets and manage resources for all academic programming.
- Creates and implements, with departmental leaders, new academic programs to achieve the Radiology Department’s vision and goals.
- Ensures alignment between all missions, sections, and divisions by meeting with relevant leadership regularly.
