Job Description
Job Summary
Maintain required immunization records, perform state mandated health screenings, track communicable diseases, respond to emergencies, provide direct care to students, faculty, and staff, and implement district school health programs at their campus under the supervision of the District Nurse.
Major Responsibilities/Duties/Critical Tasks
- Gather student information; establish and evaluate records:
- Review and evaluate immunization records; contribute to and implement the individualized student healthcare plans; review and evaluate physician orders as related to all medications to be administered on campus; compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required, including clinic records and accurate, updated health records on all students.
- Provide student care:
- Administer physician ordered medications as outlined in district policy; collaborate with campus directors, counselors, teachers, parents, and others regarding health needs of students with health conditions; make referrals as necessary; provide health counseling and instruction to individual students.
- Manage unexpected or emergency situations in assigned specialty population:
- Provide temporary and emergency care for sick and injured students or staff according to district policy and procedures; notify parents of accident or illness and secure medical care for students, faculty, and staff as needed in emergency situations.
- Administer and document state mandated testing for student population:
- Perform screening procedures as outlined by Texas Department of Health, Texas Education Agency, and district policy; maintain accurate screening records and update electronic health record with results as needed.
- Assist District School Nurse with other duties as assigned:
- Monitor and track communicable diseases and report any state mandated illnesses (i.e.: SARS-CoV-2, influenza); assist front office as needed with special consideration of primary nursing duties.
Terms of Employment:
- $22,376.25 annual salary (part-time).
- 19.5 hours per week.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited RN school of Nursing w/current Texas license.
- Current Texas Registered Nursing license.
- CPR (Healthcare Provider) certification.
- 2 years of clinical nursing experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- General subject content knowledge.
- General knowledge of curriculum and instruction.
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior.
- Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
