Job Summary
The Quality Assurance Assistant plays a crucial role in ensuring product quality and compliance with industry regulations, company standards, and customer expectations. This position involves monitoring processes, inspecting products, documenting results, and working collaboratively with the production and quality assurance teams to implement continuous improvements.
Responsibilities
- Quality Control:
- Conduct routine inspections of products, equipment, and processes to ensure compliance with quality standards and food safety regulations.
- Identify and report defects, deviations, or potential hazards promptly to the Quality Assurance Manager.
- Documentation & Reporting:
- Maintain detailed and accurate records of inspections, tests, and corrective actions.
- Assist in preparing reports for internal and external audits.
- Compliance Monitoring:
- Ensure adherence to USDA regulations and other applicable food safety standards.
- Monitor compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) plans, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
- Team Collaboration:
- Work closely with production staff to ensure a clear understanding of quality requirements.
- Participate in quality assurance training sessions and assist in onboarding new employees.
- Process Improvement:
- Support initiatives to improve processes, reduce waste, and enhance overall product quality.
- Assist in investigating and resolving customer complaints related to product quality.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; an associate or bachelor’s degree in agriculture, food science, or a related field is preferred.
- Previous experience in quality assurance, food safety, or a related role, preferably in the agriculture or meat processing industry.
- Knowledge of HACCP principles, GMPs, and USDA regulations.
- Basic understanding of quality assurance tools and techniques.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to stand for extended periods, move around the facility, and occasionally lift items up to 50 lbs.
- Comfortable working in cold or variable-temperature environments.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Background in agriculture or experience in meat processing.
- Familiarity with visual inspection and quality testing equipment.
- Certifications in HACCP, food safety, or similar programs.
