Oncology Nurse Navigator
Non Exempt- Full Time
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
An oral oncolytic nurse navigator is a professional registered nurse with oncology-specific clinical knowledge who offers individualized assistance to patients, families, and caregivers to help overcome healthcare system barriers. Utilizing the nursing process, an oral oncology nurse navigator provides education and resources to facilitate informed decision-making and timely access to quality health and psychosocial care throughout all phases of the cancer continuum.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Based upon the Oncology Nursing Society: Oncology Nurse Navigator Core Competencies.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice. Knowledge of organizational policies regulations and procedures to administer safe patient care. Skill in identifying problems and recommending solutions. Ability to create, interpret and apply clinical guidelines and best practices. Have strong communication skills, the ability to operate basic computer programs and must feel comfortable working in a time intensive clinical environment.
EDUCATION/TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:Graduate from an accredited nursing school. Experience as an oncology care nurse is required.
CERTIFCATE/LICENSE REQUIREMENTS:Possession of a Utah State Registered Nursing License. BLS certification. Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred. Oncology Certified Nurse & Navigation experience preferred.
ONS Oncology Nurse Navigator Core Competencies
Position requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours. Requires exposure to communicable diseases, bodily fluids, and toxic substances. Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment.
