Job Description
Are you a compassionate person who enjoys helping others? The Department of Workforce Services (DWS) is looking for skilled and motivated individuals to fill 20 Eligibility Specialist I positions within the Eligibility Services Division.
Successful applicants will be required to train in person for two weeks in the Provo DWS office.For these two weeks the Provo office will be considered the home office and you will be required to travel on your own time and make your own travel arrangements.
After the in-person training in Provo the remaining weeks of training will be conducted in a DWS office located near you, if available.
After successful completion of training, the positions may be eligible for teleworking with some in office attendance for team meetings and mandatory training.
State of Utah employees must reside in Utah.
In recognition of Governor Cox's Executive Order on rural Utah hiring, preference may be given to those applicants who physically reside outside the Wasatch Front.
This position may be filled as an Eligibility Specialist II for an internal applicant, depending on qualifications.
Job Duties
Employees in this position work within a team structure to determine eligibility of customers applying for or participating in public assistance programs such as Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, General Assistance, SNAP, Medicaid or Child Care through interactive interviewing and fact gathering.
Accurately applying complex policies and procedures in determining initial and / or continuing eligibility.
- Assisting customers seeking financial and other supportive services primarily by identifying and assessing service needs through daily processing of an individual and team caseload.
- Ensuring timely delivery of services in compliance with federal regulations.
- Exercising good judgment in working with clients who need assistance in utilizing community, department or government resources.
- Answering phone calls from customers who are calling to complete a phone interview, inquiring about the status of their current case and or requesting information on programs / benefits that are available.
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate for this position is someone who has :
- 4 years of work experience determining eligibility for unemployment, veterans' benefits, loans, financial assistance or social service programs.
- Superb communication skills ability to communicate with customers and co-workers from all backgrounds.
Preference
Preference may be given to applicants who speak Spanish fluently.
