Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Examine patients’ medical records
- Prepare patients for treatment (e.g. by applying oral sedation or anesthesia)
- Check teeth, gingiva, and other parts of the mouth, along with X-rays and tests, to diagnose dental problems
- Clean teeth, including scaling and root planing
- Identify tooth decay and replace decay with restorations
- Design and fit dental prosthetics, such as bridges, crowns and dentures
- Apply teeth-whitening treatments
- Perform tooth extractions and root canal procedures
- Prescribe medication as needed
- Educate patients on proper brushing techniques, flossing and fluoride use
- Promote good oral health and preventive dental care
- All tasks, projects, or duties reasonably necessary for the effective and efficient provision of dental care for UNHS dental patients, as well as the effective and efficient operation of UNHS’s dental department
- Educate dental staff in an effort to improve techniques and practices
- Any other tasks, projects, or duties that are requested by the Employee’s supervisor or other UNHS management or administration that is at all reasonably related to UNHS and/or the Employee’s employment with UNHS.
Requirements
Critical Competencies & Required Competency Documents
- Graduation from an accredited US dental school.
- Documents Req.: Diploma, Copy of Utah State Dentist licensure, Copy of DEA Registration
- Completion of a GPR or AEGD residency is prefered.
- Documents Req.: Program Completion Certificate
- CPR/BLS Certification.
- Documents Req.: Copy of CPR/BLS certification.
- Ability to learn and teach other people about dental conditions.
- Documents Req.: No documentation required—determined on-the-job.
As a Tribal Organization the Utah Navajo Health System, Inc. (UNHS) treats patients with high risk and underlying chronic medical conditions. Therefore, UNHS requires its employees to show proof of immunization prior to their employment with UNHS or during their employment. Below is a list of immunizations/vaccinations required to be employed or to continue employment with UNHS.
The immunizations/vaccinations include but not limited to following:
- MMR (Measles Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella): Documentation of two MMR vaccines (OR) Documentation of MMR titers.
- Complete Hepatitis B vaccine series (3 doses), documented proof of titers indicating immunity, or a declination that may be signed upon arrival.
- Proof of up-to-date PPD skin testing, if previously negative (OR) Proof of positive PPD skin test with the most recent chest x-ray and treatment history.
- Tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (Tdap).
- Varicella titers, history of varicella or varicella immunization series.
- Influenza vaccine for the current year.
- COVID-19 vaccine
- Any other vaccinations as requested.
