- Schedule: Part-Time: Two 12 hour shifts a week Monday through Friday 0600 hrs to 1800 hrs, with optional nights/weekend on-call and event standbys. Subject to callback.

GENERAL PURPOSE
The Emergency Medical Service serves the community by responding to and dealing with emergency situations, natural conditions that pose a threat to life and property, and incidents of service to the citizens. They perform within the scope of the practice, policies and procedures of Utah Navajo Health System EMS guidelines and are responsible for the protection of life and property through medical services, emergency scene support, public education and other duties. They perform a full range of emergency medical work under adverse and strenuous physical conditions. EMS have a high risk of exposure to infectious diseases encountered during emergency medical incidents. EMS will render emergency medical aid at the level of his/her scope of practice under the Utah EMS guidelines that is approved by Utah Navajo Health System EMS Medical Director.
EMS personnel are required to regularly schedule monthly training and quarterly skills training to help with maintaining the high level of knowledge, skill and ability necessary to function safely and effectively as an EMS provider.
EMS Personnel is continuously evaluated for general knowledge, skill proficiency, and ability to work as part of a team. Any deficiencies are corrected through remedial training.

EMS personnel fulfilling the duties and responsibilities of a UNHS EMS provider will at all times present themselves in a courteous, professional and responsible manner. Ability to communicate effectively with peers, patients, public safety responders and medical staff at medical facilities.
Requirements
- An ability to follow and understand the UNHS EMS chain of command.
- An ability to communicate verbally via telephone and radio equipment.
- An ability to lift, carry, drag and balance up to 125 pounds (250 with assistance).
- An ability to interpret written and oral instructions.
- An ability to use sound judgment and remain calm in high-stress situations.
- An ability to work effectively in an environment with loud noises and flashing lights.
- An ability to function efficiently throughout an entire work shift.
- An ability to calculate weight and volume ratios and read small print under life-threatening time constraints.
- An ability to read and understand English language manuals and road maps.
- An ability to accurately discern street signs and address numbers.
- An ability to interview patient(s), family members, and bystanders.
- An ability to document patient care reports electronically through ImageTrend Elite program and or written report, if electronic reporting is not available.
- An ability to learn to use electronics and other ems mechanical equipment.
- Good manual dexterity with the ability to perform all tasks related to highest quality patient care.
- An ability to bend, stoop, and crawl on uneven terrain.
- An Ability to provide public health education and EMS education to peers.
- An ability to withstand varied environmental conditions such as extreme heat, cold, and moisture.
- An ability to work in low light, confined spaces, and other dangerous environments.
- An ability to manage patients' airways at the level of scope of practice during high stress situations.
- An ability to administer medication at the level of scope of practice during high stress situations.
- An ability to provide high quality medical support during medical or trauma calls.
- An ability to work with UNHS Clinical staff within EMS personnel scope of practice at any of the UNHS clinic sites during an emergency.
- An ability to work in other areas of UNHS outside of EMS as needed or assigned.
Licenses; Certificates; Special requirements:
EMT requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED
- A valid Utah State Driver’s License
- Utah State EMS license
- National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician certification.
- AHA BLS Provider level CPR certification.
- Pediatric Education for Prehospital Providers (PEPP)
- Hazmat Awareness Level certificate within one year of hire.
- Emergency Vehicle Operations (EVO) certificate and Traffic Incident Management (TIM) training within one year of hire.
- Applied Suicide Intervention Skills (ASIST) within one year of hire.
- Utah EMS Instructor Certification within one year of hire.
- Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) within one year of hire.
AEMT additional requirement certifications along with EMT requirements:
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
- Advanced Medical Life Support (AMLS).
Paramedic additional requirement certification along with EMT and AEMT requirements:
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
As a Tribal Organization the Utah Navajo Health System, Inc. (UNHS) treats patients with high risk and underlying chronic medical conditions. Therefore, UNHS requires its employees to show proof of immunization prior to their employment with UNHS or during their employment. Below is a list of immunizations/vaccinations required to be employed or to continue employment with UNHS.
The immunizations/vaccinations include but not limited to following:
- MMR (Measles Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella): Documentation of two MMR vaccines (OR) Documentation of MMR titers.
- Complete Hepatitis B vaccine series (3 doses), documented proof of titers indicating immunity, or a declination that may be signed upon arrival.
- Proof of up-to-date PPD skin testing, if previously negative (OR) Proof of positive PPD skin test with the most recent chest x-ray and treatment history.
- Tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (Tdap).
- Varicella titers, history of varicella or varicella immunization series.
- Influenza vaccine for the current year.
- COVID-19 vaccine
- Any other vaccinations as requested.
