JOB TITLE: Peer Recovery Coach - Ogden

DIRECT SUPERVISOR: Program Manager

GENERAL OVERVIEW OF ROLE

A Peer Recovery Coach is a non-clinical, Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) working under the direct supervision of the Ogden Program Manager. PRC’s work together with their team members to further USARA’s mission and provide direct Recovery Support Services for individuals with Substance Use Disorder (SUD), at any stage within the Recovery Continuum of Care. The primary role of the PRC is to utilize their knowledge, skills & own lived-experience in recovery to promote a shared understanding & engage individuals seeking Recovery Support Services. Additionally, the PRC will be responsible for engaging participants in the Recovery Community Center, Mutual Aid Recovery groups, & recovery community activities and events.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Adhere to Utah Peer Support Specialist Code of Ethics & CPSS Core Competencies.
  • Establish regular weekly one-on-one contact with participants, either in person or virtually to establish rapport by using Evidenced-Based Recovery Practices, Active Listening skills & shared lived-experience.
  • Utilize Evidence-Based Recovery Practices, such as the Recovery Management Plan with participants.
  • Understanding of, and ability to maintain appropriate boundaries with participants.
  • Advocates ALL Pathways to Recovery, including but not limited to: Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT), harm reduction, syringe exchange, etc.
  • Recovery Coaching, Advocacy, & Facilitation of the following:Mutual Aid Recovery groups, Recovery Community activities & events (weekly, quarterly, annually)
  • Link participants & family members to appropriate community resources.
  • Provide awareness & education on critical Substance Use Disorder (SUD) topics, such as harm reduction, Naloxone education, syringe exchange, & disease prevention.
  • Accurately log data in a timely manner (utilization of Recovery Data Platform (RDP))
  • Assist participants in identifying barriers & potential supports to critical/essential needs. This includes but is not limited to: Financial, Housing, Transportation, Hygiene Necessities, Employment, Nutrition
  • May need to fulfill additional tasks based on community partnerships:
  • COMPASS Program
  • Provides in person and phone support to individuals in the local hospital to help them attain and maintain Medication Assisted Treatment and navigate other needed resources
  • Rotating on-call schedule (evenings and weekends)
  • Roseman University’s EMPOWERED Program
  • Provide peer support to women enrolled in the EMPOWERED program
  • Provide progress updates during weekly meetings and generate status reports to ensure compliance with policies and standard operating procedures.
  • Assist with developing and implementing activities that keep women enrolled in the EMPOWERED program engaged with services throughout their pregnancy and during the one year postpartum period.
  • Comprehensive Opioid, Stimulant, and Substance Use Program (COSSUP) in partnership with the Weber County Sheriff’s Office
  • Provide outreach, coaching, and group support in various community settings (Weber County jail, homeless shelters, etc.)
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Certification as a Certified Peer Support Specialist/Peer Recovery Coach from an approved curriculum (will train if needed)
  • Familiar with Motivational Interviewing techniques (will train if needed)
  • Ability to work with vulnerable populations
  • Ability to keep and maintain a flexible work schedule
  • Must be a self-starter and internally motivated to achieve team &/or individual objectives
  • Efficiency at prioritizing tasks to ensure compliance with reporting requirements, data entry accuracy
  • Valid Driver’s license and private licensed & registered vehicle
  • Strong Internet & Computer Navigation skills with a moderate proficiency in MS Office Suite and Google Suite
  • Experience utilizing cloud-based HIPAA compliant database software (preferred)
  • Familiarity with & ability to use USARA Social Media Platforms
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including verbal & written communication
  • Strong values based in work ethic and recovery-oriented principles
  • Event planning experience in social/community events & service projects (preferred)
  • Current knowledge of, and ability to navigate community resources
  • Understanding of, & ability to maintain appropriate boundaries

Education & Requirements

  • High School diploma, GED or higher
  • Must have a minimum of two years of recovery from lived-experience in substance use
  • Criminal Background Check
  • Driver’s License Check (dependent on community partnerships)
  • Fingerprinting Check (dependent on community partnerships)

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer, with ability to bend, stoop, reach, stand, and move from one area of the building to another
  • Drive a car to navigate from USARA offices to offsite locations
  • Manual and physical dexterity needed to operate a computer keyboard and handle paper documents
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds
