The Department of Engineering at Utah Tech University in St. George, Utah, invites applications for a full-time position in Mechanical Engineering. The preferred candidate will possess either a Ph.D. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline, with expertise in the areas of solid mechanics and materials science. Candidates with a Ph.D. will be considered for the tenure-track Associate Professor position. Candidates with an M.S. will be considered for the Instructor of the Practice position. - Responsibilities
- Instructor of the Practice:
- Teach 30 workload credits per academic year (15 in Fall semester and 15 in Spring semester)
- Maintain regular office hours for courses, labs, and/or design projects.
- Maintain availability for and assist with end-of-year design competitions/showcases.
- Perform defined campus-wide faculty duties, including holding office hours, attendance at department and division meetings, service on committees, outreach programs, and other responsibilities as defined by university policy.
- Assistant Professor:
- Teach 24 workload credits per academic year (12 in Fall semester and 12 in Spring semester).
- Engage in six (6) workload credits of service per academic year. Service may include, but is not limited to, research, service to the department or university, professional development, STEM outreach, and industry collaboration.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Qualifications
- M.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related field required for Instructor of the Practice position.
- Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or related field required for tenure-track Assistant Professor position.
- Applicants who are all-but-dissertation (ABD) are invited to apply if the degree will be completed prior to August 2025.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively teach students in and out of the classroom. A teaching demonstration will be required of all finalists prior to hire.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to work well with students and other faculty members.
- Candidates with industry experience are preferred.

POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Full-time (9-month) professional-track or tenure-track faculty position. Faculty service begins August 2025, with pay and benefits starting July 1, 2025. Annual salary of $70,000-$74,000 for professional-track and $80,000-$85,000 for tenure-track applicant, depending on qualifications and experience, with additional compensation available for optional summer/overload teaching.
