What are the responsibilities and job description for the Associate General Counsel position at Ute Mountain Ute Tribe?
The Ute Mountain Ute Tribe is seeking a full-time Associate General Counsel to provide in-house legal counsel to the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe Council and the Tribe's departments under the supervision of the Tribe's General Counsel. Job assignments and responsibilities are diverse, and the selected candidate can expect to manage numerous files in several different areas of Indian Law. The Tribe's Justice Department is a small office with 2 to 5 attorneys and utilizes several Special Counsel by contract. Attorneys are expected to travel as reasonable and necessary.
Minimum Qualifications:
A Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school AND at least two years' experience working in the field of Indian Law.
Licensed to practice law in any state in good standing and must be able to acquire appropriate licensing in either Colorado, New Mexico, and Utah in order to enable Counsel to represent the Tribe in Tribal, state, and federal jurisdictions.
Must divulge all disciplinary proceedings which are currently pending.
Reside or relocate within reasonable proximity to the main tribal offices in Towaoc, Colorado, or White Mesa, New Mexico.
Must be able to travel within the United States upon reasonable accommodation.
