Custodian

Position Summary/Objective

The Custodian is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and aesthetics of the building facilities and surrounding grounds. This role combines custodial duties with outdoor groundskeeping tasks, ensuring that both the interior and exterior of the property are well-kept, safe, and presentable. The ideal candidate should be reliable, detail-oriented, and capable of performing physical labor in both indoor and outdoor environments.

Essential Functions

• Clean and sanitize restrooms, break rooms, and common areas.
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, and polish floors.
• Empty trash bins and replace liners in all areas of the facility.
• Dust and clean furniture, windows, and fixtures.
• Ensure the proper storage and handling of cleaning products and equipment.
• Report any maintenance or repair needs to the appropriate personnel.
• Maintain 5S Checklist as it applies to your work area
• Report any safety, sanitary , or fire hazards to the appropriate department.
• Mow lawns, trim shrubs, and maintain landscaped areas.
• Water plants, flowers, and grass as needed.
• Collect and dispose of litter and debris around the grounds.
• Remove snow, leaves, and other seasonal debris from walkways and parking areas.
• Maintain tools and equipment used for groundskeeping.
  
  

Other Requirements

• Knowledge of proper cleaning techniques and use of equipment.
• Ability to operate basic landscaping tools (mowers, trimmers, etc.).
• Ability to lift heavy objects and work in varying weather conditions.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.

• Time Management: Efficiently organize tasks and manage time to ensure both custodial and groundskeeping responsibilities are completed in a timely manner.
• Problem-Solving: Identify issues (e.g., equipment malfunction, grounds hazards) and take initiative to resolve them or report them to the appropriate party.
• Physical Stamina: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods, including lifting, bending, standing, and working in various weather conditions.
• Teamwork and Collaboration: Work well with other maintenance staff and communicate effectively with supervisors and team members to ensure a safe and clean environment.
• Safety Awareness: Demonstrate knowledge of and commitment to following safety protocols, including proper use of chemicals, tools, and equipment, as well as personal protective gear.
• Customer Service: Maintain a professional and approachable demeanor when interacting with building occupants or visitors, addressing concerns related to cleanliness or grounds maintenance.
  
  

Required Education And Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent
• 1-3 years experience in custodial and/or groundskeeping roles.
  
  

Work Environment

This job operates in an office and manufacturing environment. This role routinely uses tools and other such equipment during the course of the job duties. Provided Personal Protective Equipment, as well as steel-toed boots or shoes, must be worn at all times.

Physical Demands

• Moderate walking and climbing
• Physically able to conduct inspections and carry equipment used for inspections
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to, stand, sit; and stoop
• Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
• Regular, predictable attendance is required
  
  

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday.

Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
