McGovern Medical School (MMS) at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth Houston) seeks a dynamic physician leader to serve as Chair of the Department of Dermatology. UTHealth Houston is the most comprehensive academic health center in the UT System and the U.S. Gulf Coast region. We are proud to be located in the world’s largest medical center, which allows us to partner with several of the nation’s nationally recognized clinical affiliates. The university's primary teaching hospitals are Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center, Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital, and Harris Health Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital.
The Department of Dermatology, the first integrated department between MD Anderson Cancer Center (MDACC) and McGovern Medical School, is consistently ranked among the top Dermatology Clinical Centers of Excellence in the United States by Dermatology Times. With a strong clinical operations network spanning four locations, the department offers comprehensive services in adult and pediatric dermatology, surgical dermatology, dermatopathology, and cosmetic care.
The department is comprised of twelve faculty members, two advanced practice nurses, one research nurse, twenty-one residents, one surgical dermatology fellow, one dermatopathology fellow, and one clinical research fellow. The faculty and residents of the combined UTHealth Houston and MDACC Department of Dermatology receive research funding each year from various sources, including federal grants and pharmaceutical companies supporting research into new therapies and imaging systems.
Qualifications:
Candidates for the Chair position should be board-certified in Dermatology, have served in an academic leadership role in a school of medicine, and be eligible for appointment as a senior-level faculty member. Strong preference will be given to candidates with experience as physician-scientists who demonstrate a successful track record in publishing and in securing grant funding. Exceptional personal and leadership qualities are required, with a documented history of implementing clinical and educational programs, mentoring and supporting faculty development and scholarship, and promoting innovative research.
