Human Resources Consultant for Development, Public Affairs, and Administration

About the Role:

UTHealth Houston is seeking an experienced Human Resources Consultant to provide expertise and support in all Human Resources functions that align with the strategic objectives of our client areas, which currently include General Administration and the Office of Development and Public Affairs. As an advisor on HR-related matters, you will leverage your knowledge of HR best practices, university policies, and applicable laws and regulations to offer creative and effective solutions to complex issues. You will partner with other HR departments and professionals to ensure a multidisciplinary approach to problem-solving. This consultant must have experience partnering with C-Suite-level executives, and a background in coaching leaders is preferred.

We prefer candidates with a background in the following:

  • Senior Human Resources Business Partner
  • Senior HR Generalist
  • Senior Employee Relations Advisor
  • Senior Human Resources Consultant

We also firmly will be inclined to conder those that have the following experience:

  • Executive-Level Consulting: Proven ability to partner with C-suite leaders, providing strategic HR guidance on organizational design, talent strategy, and business transformation.
  • Organizational Development (OD): Expertise in workforce planning, leadership development, culture transformation, and team effectiveness to drive long-term business success.
  • Strong Analytical Skills: Comfortable working with HR metrics and workforce analytics and translating data into actionable insights to drive business outcomes.
  • Change Management & Strategy: Experience leading organizational change initiatives, culture transformations, and leadership coaching.
  • HR Expertise: Deep knowledge of HR best practices, employment laws, talent management, and succession planning.

Soft Skills & Style:

  • Highly collaborative, persuasive, and strategic—able to challenge senior leaders while maintaining strong partnerships.
  • Consultative mindset, able to assess business needs and align HR solutions accordingly.
  • Strong executive presence and ability to communicate complex HR insights clearly and effectively.

Certifications Preferred:

  • SPHR
  • PHR
  • SHRM-SCP

This role will work on a hybrid schedule of three days in our office in the University Center Tower and two remotely. The days will depend on business needs and meetings, so there must be some flexibility.


Certification/Skills:

  • Proven problem-solving abilities, with a knack for identifying and addressing complex challenges efficiently and creatively.
  • Excellent critical thinking, writing, analytical skills, and the ability to analyze data to identify operational gaps.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively, always exercising prudent judgment and discretion.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to work effectively with various stakeholders.
  • Must have a strong service-oriented attitude, exceptional interpersonal skills, and ability to build meaningful connections with university community members.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, showing resilience and adaptability in managing shifting priorities and unforeseen challenges.
  • Professional in Human Resources (PHR)-HRCI from the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI) preferred or
  • Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR)-HRCI from the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI) preferred or
  • SHRM-CP - Certified Professional from the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) preferred or
  • SHRM-SCP - Senior Certified Professional from the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) preferred

Minimum Education:

A bachelor's degree in business administration with an emphasis in human resources or a related field is required. May substitute required education with equivalent years of experience beyond the minimum experience requirement.

Minimum Experience:

6 years of progressively responsible experience in Human Resources; experience in at least one HR specialty function required

We prefer applicants who have been in the role of Generalist, HR Business Partner, or Employee Relations Advisor

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.

Residency Requirement:

Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
