Postdoctoral fellowship in Cerebrovascular in Neurodegenerative Diseases

The lab of Dr. Kevin Lin at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to join a dynamic team investigating the cerebrovasculature and blood-brain barrier's function in aging and neurodegenerative diseases, including vascular dementia in Alzheimer’s disease and Sickle Cell Disease.

Our current projects focus on intravital two-photon microscopy imaging of the cerebrovasculature in the mouse brain. The successful candidate will be responsible for animal surgeries, behavioral testing, and proteins/histological analysis. Future research will explore the molecular mechanisms of cerebrovascular disease progression in neurodegeneration.

This position is funded through an NIH Research Grant and the lab is part of the UTHealth BRAINS Research Lab in the Department of Neurology, at UTHealth Houston. Our lab is equipped with cutting-edge technologies, including a custom-built two-photon laser-scanning microscope and an automatic western blot system. As a member of the UTHealth community, the candidate will have access to specialized core facilities, a collaborative research environment and access to the Texas Medical Center, the largest medical center in the world.
Ideal candidates should have a strong background in biochemistry and molecular biology. Additional expertise in pharmacology, biostatistics, and rodent behavioral testing is highly desirable. We are looking for self-motivated, independent individuals who are ready to contribute to innovative cerebrovascular research.

The position is available immediately.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform animal surgeries and in vivo viral injection, including rodent survival surgeries, tissue dissections, behavioral tests and post-operative care.
  • Collect and process biological samples, including blood, tissue, and organs.
  • Collaborate with other team members to design and perform experiments and interpret results.
  • Maintain accurate records of experimental procedures and data.
  • Communicate research findings through presentations, publications, and scientific meetings.
  • Participate in lab meetings, journal clubs, and other research activities within the Lin lab and BRAINS Research Laboratory.
We offer a competitive salary in accordance with UTHSC and NIH guidelines, as well as a benefits package, and the opportunity to work in a dynamic and collaborative research environment. The initial term of the position is one year, with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding availability.
