Utilities One is looking for highly skilled OSP Engineer II to join our team and support the design, implementation, and maintenance of OSP infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in fiber optic network design, and the ability to lead projects with minimal supervision. This role requires expertise in permitting, regulatory compliance, and working with contractors to ensure successful project execution
Responsibilities
- Plan and design fiber optic networks, including the selection of appropriate cable types, sizes, and routing;
- Design and develop OSP network layouts for fiber optic cabling systems;
- Determine the best pathway for cable placement and inform designers of any roadblocks while identifying other utilities that may be in conflict;
- Conduct surveys of existing infrastructure to identify the best locations for new cables & equipment and to ensure the overall success of the fiber optic network;
- Conduct QC and QA reviews for HLD, LLD, and related drafts to ensure accuracy, compliance, and alignment with business objectives;
- Identify areas of violations in network designs, propose alternative routes, and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations;
- Monitor project progress, maintain documentation, and coordinate with internal teams, customers, permitting agencies, and field personnel to ensure timely execution;
- Work closely with the permitting coordinator to understand all requirements before design implementation and conduct thorough address verification research;
- Assist other engineers on the team, provide technical guidance, and train new and existing employees to enhance team efficiency and knowledge;
- Serve as a project lead, manage file documentation, generate reports, and act as a liaison between Utilities One and clients to ensure smooth communication and project success.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in designing and implementing fiber optic networks;
- Proven knowledge of FTTH, FTTP architecture, components, best practices and design of fiber optic network systems;
- Proven experience with IQGIO, QGIS, CAD, Katapult, and O-Calc is required;
- Familiarity with AutoCAD, Comsof, AutoDesign, ARAMIS, and ArcGIS;
- Knowledge of industryNESC, standards, and regulations related to fiber optic networks;
- Knowledge of Make Ready Engineering and Pole Loading Analysis is required;
- Permitting knowledge is required;
- Ability to understand SOW per project;
- Ability to understand Joint Use agreement for various jurisdiction;
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously;
