About The Role
Utilitra has an exciting opportunity for a Road Mechanic servicing Central Illinois & Missouri. If your skills and experience are a match for the position described below, we'd love to hear from you. A Road Mechanic Level III holds a senior position, managing complex diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance strategies with significant autonomy. This mechanic leads repair projects, develops maintenance protocols, and ensures compliance with safety standards. The role requires extensive experience with advanced mechanical systems, proven leadership capabilities, and often a higher educational background in a related field. Travel is frequent, sometimes on short notice, to manage field operations across various customer locations.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Oversee and train lower-level mechanics; manage field repair projects.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Service and repair company vehicles and electrical power line construction equipment.
- Ensure equipment is properly serviced and repaired on a timely basis.
- Perform complete inspections of vehicles and equipment and report issues to the Fleet Maintenance Department
- Comply with federal and state vehicle requirements.
- Comply with company and federal safety rules, policies, and procedures.
- Complete and submit all required documents in an accurate and timely manner.
- Overtime, weekends, and overnight travel may be required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Cross-train in all facets of the Fleet, preparing to fill in for anyone absent and to grow in responsibility and scope over time.
The person in this role will uphold the culture of Utilitra, including relationship building with customers as well as general behavior on Utilitra or client premises or at Utilitra-sponsored events.
Requirements/Qualifications:
- Must possess a Class B valid CDL with Air Brake Endorsement.
- Must be comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Extended periods of driving may be required at times.
- Ownership of repair tools
- One (1) year diesel road mechanic experience preferred; electrical construction experience preferred
- Experience with smartphones, tablets, and laptops preferred.
- Experience with welding preferred.
- Maintain and establish cooperative working relationships.
- Speak effectively with customers and employees of the company.
- Ability to work with minimal to no supervision and perform independent tasks based on general direction.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to regularly lift 40 pounds and periodically lift up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to climb up into big rigs, crawl under vehicles, and maneuver around equipment and vehicles to work on them.
- Ability to manipulate hands, arms, and fingers to use hand tools and power tools.
- Ability to see in minimal light at times, differentiating color and texture to identify concerns.
Travel Requirements:
- This role requires 100% travel to various job sites within a 150-mile radius of headquarters.
- Overtime, weekends, and overnight travel may be required.
